I'm wondering how many people enjoy gamification in apps, and if there is any correlation with being ND (neurodivergent). #Gamification #ActuallyAutistics #ActuallyADHD #ActuallyAuDHD

Problematic media autistic representation: Chasing Shadows TV show Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
I just watched the very problematic to autistic people iTV show Chasing Shadows. BritBox listed the show as a dark comedy featuring a socially inept person. The Wikipedia article calls the lead character a misfit before later indicating undiagnosed autism. I'm so disappointed such viewpoints were present in 2014, when the show aired. The show went out of the way to poke fingers as if to say "look at the funny autistic person!". I watched the show, of course, totally identifying with the lead character and my heart broke with how everyone treated him (with very little exception) while having great difficulty in seeing his incredible contributions. No wonder the show wasn't renewed, despite quite the cliffhanger. So it is true that bad representation is worse than any representation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chasing_Shadows_(TV_series) #ChasingShadows #iTV @autistics@fedigroups.social #ActuallyAutistics

It's a little under 4 years since I was last able to work, and that was in software development. Since then, I've completely forgotten everything about programming and being able to work. And yet..... For the last 2 days across multiple sleep sessions, I've been having a continuing dream that I was just starting a software developer job in the format of "in the day of". I'm experiencing all the uncertainties, intrapersonal relationship disconnects, and politics that go along with that. I can already feel me responding with autistic overwhelm and even the start of an autistic meltdown, typical in my past very broken professional career. Why dream about this now? What purpose does reliving through that pain now achieve? I'm not trying to challenge myself, and I don't see how I could get back to that life because of being disabled in many ways. I had read a couple threads here of IT terminology I worked with decades back. Could it be that simple? #InterpretingDreams #SoftwareDevelopment #ActuallyAutistics

Another post I read just now brought up this painful memory. My dad, all through my childhood, kept repeating that I wouldn't live to age 20 because I didn't have common sense. He must've thought it a fine joke, but that is brutal to hear from your own blood parent! And now that I know I'm an AuDHDer, yes of course I didn't have the common sense that he did. But he didn't understand me at all. Some people apparently need lessons on how to be a good parent. This is just one of many reasons why I have cut my parents out of my life. #BadParenting @autistics@fedigroups.social #ActuallyAutistics

Being misunderstood is a huge trigger for me, perhaps tied to the fight against human injustice part of neurodivergence. Stimming isn't even re-regulating me right now. I asked my GP/PCP to complete a form so that I could have a preferred medical transportation provider. First, even though I use and *need* a cane, they said I did not on the form. And then they completed the form without specifying the preferred provider. I'm really triggered right now. Trying my best to calm down and not burn down the bridge of the relationship. @autistics@fedigroups.social #ActuallyAutistics #ActuallyAuDHD #Misunderstood

I've been deep diving into this YouTube channel. It has great non-binary and neurodivergent (especially autistic) content. The one thing that keeps catching me off guard is that they are framing neurodivergence as a disability. Is that a cultural thing that I missed (they are in the UK)? Or is it the perception of this YouTuber? I've always framed it as a different type of brain and way of looking at the world. I'll still keep watching and supporting their content, but it's something that keeps niggling me. @AdelaideAlchemist@www.youtube.com @autistics@fedigroups.social #ActuallyAutistics #NonBinary #YouTube #Disability
