@thirzajane @RedRobyn @BobLefridge @thomasbeagle but Pharmac still can't spend those expected future cost savings, it would have to cut something that it's currently funding that was lower priority than maybe preventing dementia.

@RedRobyn @BobLefridge @thomasbeagle @thirzajane I think the window should be wider, but the problem with funding it for the entire age range is that the start-up cost is unpredictable and perhaps very large. If even half a million people got it the first year it became available that's a serious chunk of Pharmac's budget for the year.

@StompyRobot @rygorous @aeva there's a New Zealand member of Parliament who has been struck by lightning three times. She doesn't approve of synthetic pharmaceuticals or believe in climate change, but that's apparently unconnected with the lightning

@LeoRJorge@mastodon.social It's model.response(), which has a type="any" or type="numeric" option. lm() uses "numeric" and glm uses "any" I think the reason I didn't know is that character variables were much less common before the stringsAsFactors revolution so I'd never come across the issue before.

Today I (eventually) learned while investigating student code that lm(), but not glm(), will silently convert a character response variable to numeric. 😐
