Day 2 at the new job. I like the people. Still in setup mode. Going to slowly start making my desk more homely :)

I start my new job today 🎉

Over the course of 2022 I've been working really hard on getting up to speed with modern web development and whoo boy, it's different to the noughties, when I was most active as a hobbyist in coding websites!

So it's been a big old slog, but I made it. Here's to having some more focus and joy in my working life from now on :)

Yes young kids and a pandemic have put me out of the habit too, but I solidly still feel like a swing dancer deep in my bones, I used to DJ for dances too :) Svelte was my first framework! I'm currently defaulting to using Astro for my own stuff, though.

No, you won't stop me, but it was still food for thought.

My usage over there was/is very very geared towards my learning and attempts at networking with as many movers and shakers in the industry as I could. I am still very much me and a lot of it was conversation, jokes and friendly stuff because being one sided is boooooring!

But I still feel like I have a networking agenda in mind 🤔

This toot was also semi in response to an article by Leonie Watson talking about having CSS control for voices in websites: https://tink.uk/why-we-need-css-speech/ I had questioned whether that would be useful or maybe more annoying for users of screen readers - but then she uses one herself so 🙊

The bird site has actually been instrumental in helping me turn myself around career-wise, and it's been pivotal for my self confidence - so... yes my new job title is there because I'm proud of the work I've done to get where I am.

That never used to be the case, though. I never used to identify myself by how I made a living, rather by what I did for fun in my free time. Hm.

How can we make a site/app's 'delight factor' (often only visual) more accessible?

More entertaining prose/copy? Music(!)? Animations that aren't only scroll linked?

What other ways are there to set a sort of ambience of a site that isn't entwined with the majority/default access type?
