@edwardbodily@mindly.social I think it’s still a community hub; just maybe a community of one. Because there wouldn’t be much of a local timeline. A bit like living out in the middle of nowhere in a cabin. :) perfectly valid choice to make for people who want some quiet, but it means a smaller/nonexistent local community.

I wonder if joining #mastodon would be easier for new people if we called the servers “community hubs” instead of “instances”. 🤔 people get confused (and intimidated!) by the technical language; and really, federation boils down to being community hubs anyway.

@willd@indieweb.social thanks, I will check it out. I thought I had a pretty decent risk tolerance, but to see it trend downwards the entire time since I signed up a few years ago makes me really hesitant. I have time, because I’m not planning on retiring for a long while, but still.

Oh you’re self-employed, they said. You need to think about retirement, they said. Open a SEP IRA, they said, because a savings account won’t grow over time.

Three years later I’m at -16.6% and have only lost from this account. 😒 at what point do I put it in savings instead?

I love being self employed, but this part sucks.

We’re planning her 5th birthday party right now and she has asked for a “galactic space training mission fancy gala” and she is planning to dress as a “space princess astronaut” 😂 We’re doing all we can to foster that love of space and science. ✨ she’s a pretty special person and I’m so excited to see where she goes.

At this point she pretends to fall over and comes to give me a massive hug.

After watching a talk I sent from @scottjenson@mastodon.social, @nikosdion was inspired to add a section on #UX for open source developers to his in-progress book.

@sarajw@mastodon.social I think the content “voice” goes a long way. Playful content that’s still clear and engaging can set the scene even more than visual gimmicks, in my opinion—the latter can be distracting.
