#WritersCoffeeClub 10/5: What wisdom do you wish you could share with your younger self?

Ahhh, mate, very little. Much of it I wouldn't have listened to. Some of it I needed to go through. Some of it is just so goddamn depressing that contemplating it feels like a chasm opening up inside.

And as for creative advice specifically... I don't know that it would be helpful. You need the boundless confidence of youth before you learn that nothing you write age 12 will be publishable.>

Decided to throw caution to the wind and make #MiniButt a Space Butt, so the first stage is painting it all black, and I have to say, I'm loving it so far. The black paint has dried really smooth and won't need buffing the way #ButtSculoture did. Now to let it dry before getting funky! #art #butts #sculpture

@paranoiapen@mas.to Yeah, I wasn't assuming that was what you meant, but I wanted to clarify just in case 😅 As an agender person I struggle with the idea that we aren't, at base, the same as men, but certainly society has forced hugely different experiences on us. There's no need to be the same as men, but I don't think there's one single thing there is to be a man either. The frustrating thing is being denied the opportunity to find out who you would be and what you would write with equal resources>

The restrictions shape the work. An example she gives is in Jane Eyre, where at one point Jane goes off on one about how trapped and limited she feels because of all the things she cannot do as a woman>

She talks about how Jane Austen never had a study to write in and had to hide her writing when people came in. And she speculates about how Shakespeare's sister, had she existed and had equal talents, would never have been afforded the same support and opportunities that he had and likely would have died in obscurity.
