I wish more people agreed/understood that it's better to have a small event that really sticks to its purpose rather than a large event that is just the same party as you get for any other event in the year with a different colour scheme. I'm always disappointed to see pride events hauling rainbow plastic at us.
In Manchester there's quite a lot of genuine queer events that I like such as the Queer Art Market where its full of stalls and performances by independent queer people, if there are any larger orgs they have to be proper queer orgs like the LGBT foundation that, as I understand it, is the main/sole reason that many/most Manchester GPs will offer bridging prescriptions of hormones. Plus they produce lots of leaflets and booklets giving information oriented to queer people (like navigating safe sex and STI risks as a trans person) and they give out free STI test kits. That is the level of queer support I want to see from any big name at a queer event. Nothing less.
