@earthshine@masto.hackers.town the biggest surprise here is that Microsoft also records which websites are being visited:

Microsoft’s records showed that at that exact same minute, a Windows device carrying GDID g:6755467234350028 had visited the ngrok signup page. Three hours later, the same GDID visited the retailer’s own website, through the same Tzulo proxy address used to set up the ngrok account.

@demofox@mastodon.gamedev.place that's actually the problem I have with it. I'd rather have it all be there than have to come back to it regularly. I *am* looking forward to it as well, but will try to practice self control in EA. 🤞

@demofox@mastodon.gamedev.place I'm the opposite, heh. I only buy EA if I'm happy with the game in its current state, even if it never got any more updates. Subnautica clashes with that given that it's heavily story based.

@lenotaire@mastodon.social @aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place jokes aside I know of a company who moved most of their data from mongodb into gzipped CSV files in folders. Basically using folders/symlinks as tables/indices, and the file system cache as memory store. The cluster size dropped from 60 TiB to 3, and performance went up significantly, lol.

@romeu@mastodon.social a friend of mine got dinged in metrics at work for deleting old project files. Thousands of lines that got counted as manual edits rather than ones made by AI.

@NanoRaptor also: do you have a way to get to that backup if you don't have access to what that backup holds? Any logins won't be helpful in restoring from backup if your password db is only in the backup. And 2FA can also get in the way if you're not careful.

@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place did they update the page? It just says "Specifies a tri-state value" now. But the date in the footer didn't change. 🤔 Edit: Actually never mind. Turns out there's a *second* MsoTriState enum with the same values but different documentation.

@troutgirl@hachyderm.io @diz@thegayagenda.fans you should ask him to put the SPD case number on the page too. Many people (myself included) would not call the person looking for them if they spotted a missing person, but would call the police. Calling the person looking for them is a great way to accidentally aid a stalker. I also had doubts that this page was real since the page is _a lot_, but if it had a case number there would be no risk with calling regardless. (And it would add some credibility.)

@eff@mastodon.social my nephew in the small teens has literally been using YouTube to learn programming. While a lot of content on YouTube is of questionable quality, this would actually hinder his ability to learn a useful skill were it to happen in his country.

@rbanffy I remember Acerola on YouTube used an edge detection algorithm together with determining the angle of edges to get contours right in an ASCII post process effect for games. The scenes were much noisier since they're just whatever games rendered, but they're still very legible. Also an interesting watch. https://youtu.be/gg40RWiaHRY

Replying to @stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe
@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe that advice also applies to monitoring scheduled backup jobs (or any other automated process). I use a service that emails me if I don't hit a specific URL roughly every 24 hours, and I hit that at the end of my backup job if it was successful. Better than finding out the hard way at some point in the future that something happened with my backup job, preventing it from running for the last month.

@lokjo@mapstodon.space the one big piece of feedback I have is to prioritize search results that are closer to where I'm currently looking. If I'm looking at my house on the map, and type the name of my street in the search box, ideally my street should be the top hit. Not streets with the same name in other parts of the country or even other countries. I like how clean the tiles look compared to OSM though. 👍
