@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @mavu@mastodon.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr interesting. Another reason we should all move toward ranked choice voting perhaps?

@cwebber@social.coop I was very close to getting a job with Cloudflare about a year ago but in the 11th hour it didn't work out. May have been a blessing in disguise (though at the time I was devistated).
I wonder if me saying something like "if genAI isn't giving us a 4 day work week, what are we even doing?" was a factor 😂

@pluralistic@mamot.fr my house in Wandsworth received some crazy propaganda from the conservatives that basically said if you want to prevent reform from winning and you want to vote against Labour, you have to vote conservative (I interpreted this as them saying voting green will give reform a win).
I'm new to the UK so this is my first encounter with council politics, but this felt a little bonkers.

@Star12Mt I really enjoyed New York 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson! https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/7368a59b-494a-4054-b287-3d637f03f27e
Also, A Half-Built Garden by Ruthanna Emrys is also great! https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/eec66b70-50ce-4341-880c-117f026e7390

@ariaflame@masto.ai @monkeydom@mastodon.social I'm rarely on YT but I would be surprised if it was. Not really their style from my experience.

@monkeydom@mastodon.social can I recommend switching from Audible to Libro.fm for audio books? It is such a better experience and your purchases can support an indie bookstore of your choice.

@sturmsucht this is great! I'd love to do something like this but just moved from the US to the UK and don't really know how to even look for this kind of thing
(it's so funny how moving to another country makes you realize how much system knowledge you just take for granted.... Like, I have to relearn where to go to buy/find/do specific things that before didn't even require thought - I just knew 😂)

@parents4future@climatejustice.global reminds me of Katz's "The Ethic of Expediency" on how the Nazis relied on using language in a way that increased efficiency of their processes and tech while also obscuring the realities of what the processes and tech were doing. If people are reduced to things and numbers it's easier to hide the horror of their crimes. http://www.culik.com/311summer07/revmallaby/Ethic_of_Expediency.pdf

@evacide@hachyderm.io all good stuff and the iud advice is real!
I got my first at 30 and it was the best. At 45 I finally got a salpingectomy (fallopian tubes removed) which should be available to anyone who knows they never wants kids, such as myself. And yet there is still significant push back from the med community against women who want this. For me it's been the best and I highly recommend if you have good insurance. Wish I had done it 10 yrs ago.
