I'm trying to escape the Reddit Hole that I dug myself into.

Good things:

  • Optimism
  • Software Development
  • Digital minimalism
  • Pragmatism

Bad things:

  • To. Many. News
  • To. Many. Screens
  • Phone before breakfast
  • Black/White opinions

@tivasyk@awawa.club @AeonCypher@lgbtqia.space I just found this reply. I really like your argumentation. I want to stand behind you guys. I don't want more accumulation of wealth and power. I don't want a future where machine communication gets put above human communication. My general dislike of the whole #noai bubble comes from this totalitarism that they show off. An article with an AI generated picture? An commit by Claude? A vibecoded bash script? Why do we condemn the people doing that? Why can't we acknowledge that they do something in the first place? Why can't we provide better options, like open weight models, open source harnesses, AI assisted security scanning? We are making our bubble smaller everyday by excluding everything and everyone "impure". That's not how you win people over. That's how you become the wizard in the Ivory Tower, complaining about the evil world. #OpenCode is a fantastic example. They went very deep in AI assisted coding until they realized it's not what they gain joy in anymore. So they dialed back and looked for a compromise. Give people things they enjoy more than whatever the evil big tech companies provide. That's how linux became great. Not by telling everyone to boycot Windows but by providing a better alternative.

@Linux_in_a_Bit@infosec.exchange I would use Debian for stability, Fedora for support and Arch for up2dateness. Where would OpenSuse go? They have a nice mascot, there is that.

@troed I'm so hyped for the fact that you don't need a cloud provider anymore. I think with just a tiny bit more efficient local models I'm just gonna throw my subscription out of the window and use local models only on my MacBook Pro. The only bad thing is that parallel execution of course becomes slower.

@mmu_man @zerkman @troed Why is it important who pushes for something? I may be naive here, but could you give me an example where a bad guy pushes for the right thing and we should be angry?
