it's almost as if both nation states have something really terrible in common that "polite" white people don't want to talk about :thonk:

I was going to suggest 🇨🇦 English (Hodgepodge)
Since we blend some British & some American. 😆

@nikink @mayintoronto aha! See: the value of alt text is for everyone! I missed the different tiny flags, until I read alt text. Then I laughed 😁.

@nikink I'd joke about UK English being "english -v"/"english --verbose" but then I'd get stuck in a whilst loop.

@yetzt @nikink 🤣 my favourite example stems from my youth; our "Info" (IT) teacher had a uniquely east German way of pronouncing "directory". Left me puzzled for half an hour, what a "shorry" might be, and why it'd be "direct". 😅

@nikink I get the meme, but in reality American English would actually be closer to being traditional. The Brits had a lot of spelling, grammar, and terminology changes back in the late 1600s through early 1800s that the Americans never went through, and actively resisted by influential and wealthy men like Benjamin Franklin and Noah Webster.
Our English never got Samuel Johnson'd or rekt by francophillic spelling traditions popular with the scholars back then.
