A very long (and very good) read by Volkskrant journalists Ben Meindertsma en @huibmodderkolk@mastodon.social about the world of #Intelligence services in the months before #Russia invaded #Ukraine. #USA warned of an approaching invasion, #Europe did not believe them because they lied about Irak in 2003. @hgg@wp-social.net Yep. März 2001 steht bei dem Video, aber ich hatte es noch älter geschätzt, irgendwo Ende der 90er. Damals habe ich das sogar als DVD gekauft und in so ziemlich jeder Internet-Einführung gezeigt 😄

Die Maus mit der auch nach 25 Jahren noch immer besten Erklärung von Internet und Domain Name System.

Alles dabei: HTTP, IP-Adressen, Router, und die DENIC spielt auch mit.

Wer sich also fragt, was dieses DNS ist, das gestern kurz kaputt war - einfach das 8 Minuten lange Video der Maus gucken 🥂

@dvk Jos said that 2.3 came out on April 7? That is right after Easter. On my groningen-info.de there was a huge drop in visitors AND pageviews, but I get that every year after Easter. On other websites I could see no difference.

@Sascha@bonn.social Das Projekt WERO gefällt mir trotzdem. Momentan haben wir hier in NL #Ideal als etablierte nationale Lösung, und das wird in #WERO aufgehen. Was ich eine gute Idee finde, da das dann auch länderübergreifend funktioniert. Und so wie das klingt ist denen klar, dass #AWS nicht optimal ist, aber ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass es bei einem Projekt der Größenordnung schlicht (noch?) keine Alternative gibt.

Useful software and phantastic community. There have always been questions about the relationship between Automattic and WP.org for example, but since fall 2024 it's increasingly impossible to ignore them. Years ago Morten Rand-Hendriksen was banned when he wanted to talk about governance, and with the luxury of hindsight that was the canary in a coalmine.
