@MikeFromLFE@cupoftea.social My favorite is when the plug itself comes just loose enough to look like it's still in place, but not in place enough to make the contact. First time it happened, we called to get it fixed, and they sent someone out, only to have them plug it in again. And I'm in IT. That's the first thing I should have checked.

@pynicolas@mastodon.social I don't know how to boost it, so I did the one thing I could think of to help. I installed it. Good luck!

I got to try out something new tonight. After building my new PC, and switching to it as my daily driver, the old one is looking for a purpose. I'm going to turn it into a server. That means getting another USB stick ready with another downloaded ISO. And then I remembered https://www.ventoy.net/ is a thing I've heard about recently. If you don't know of it, it's a bootable USB stick that lets you store a bunch of ISO images, and then choose which one to boot. I had a 64g USB drive laying around, so I put the Ubuntu server and desktop ISO images on it, and was able to successfully boot each one on the old PC. I'm not reformating yet. Got some other stuff to clean up first. But this works. And I can use it elsewhere. Definitely keeping this in my toolbox. #Ventoy #Linux #homelab #ubuntu

Sometimes, the world gives us a little gift, a way that we can gain more happiness. For me, right now, the obvious answer would be the work I'm doing on BrainFrame. I'm making real progress on getting the sync up and running (nothing visible in any UI yet though). However, the answer turned out to be more mundane. My wife and I went out to dinner with my dad at a local Thai place that she and I dearly love. High quality food, good prices, good atmosphere, good people running the restaurant. We got to take my dad there for his first ever experience of Thai food, and he really enjoyed it. He was able to get some amazing food, talk with the owners a bit, and (more or less) get a tour of the place where they talked with him about the decorations, the building's historical significance (it's on the National Historic Registry), and even got some brand new tea to try that he's never had. It was quiet and pleasant, exactly the sort of night I needed, and I made sure the owners knew they were doing something special. I hope you all get something like that yourselves. How about you? Any little gift from the universe that made your day just plain better?

This post contains real wisdom, and it landed at a time when I need it. I'm hoping that anybody else who also needs it will be helped in finding it and acting on it. I've been known to say that you can't help others when you yourself are on empty, and here is someone much wiser than me saying the same. Take that break. We all need it. Come back recharged and better. #selfcare @selfcare@hachyderm.io https://hachyderm.io/@selfcare/117141312384877635

@kerravonsen@mastodon.au Now that's a genuine misread on my part. Thanks for the correction! You still did some heavy lifting to make it work though, and that's worth celebrating. A nice thing you could do if you're up for it would be to file your findings as a bug report on that plugin. I know I'd appreciate it if I got something that detailed. As for my own experience with obsidian plugins, there were two things that made me displeased with the experience, and only one of them was the fault of obsidian itself. The first was the lack of documentation. Even getting a simple "hello world" running was a challenge. I hope they've fixed that issue by now, but even at the time plugins were a big thing and the documentation wasn't. The second was on me: I couldn't fully describe what I wanted, so I couldn't map out how to accomplish it. That has changed, but an obsidian plugin is no longer the right vehicle to describe what I want. That description is much longer than I can toot though 🙂 So I'm writing my own app that also uses markdown. It'll therefore be compatible with obsidian. The lesson: if a plugin is the wrong shape, consider doing your own app that would be compatible. It might work better. And if you want some ideas on how to build and maintain that, I can offer those up as well.

@MikeFromLFE@cupoftea.social Even with the familiarity, I find it still helps to have more people say it. I've seen it described by one Internet personality very succinctly: Depression is a dick. It lies to you constantly. My voice might not be enough, but it's one more voice to help fight the lies being told to you by depression. And because of that, you'll have my support all the way through.

@MikeFromLFE@cupoftea.social I have treatment resistant depression. I know it's hard to believe that others care, even when they show up and say so. Every extra voice helps make it more believable. You really do have my support. It's a difficult time, but you will make it through the other side and just have memories of it soon.

@TerminalTilt@social.terminaltilt.com The one value I could see in keeping your home lab on kubernetes is the knowledge that everything you're doing with it is transportable to other systems. It keeps your rigor intact on things you might want to port elsewhere. But that's my take, and it may not be right for you. Just wanted to make sure that was in your thought process.
