@pkal@social.sdfeu.org There is a mention of some new garbage collector (not in the release but the email)? I tried looking it up but see a thread 6 years old at this point.

@yantar92@fosstodon.org @tarsius@fosstodon.org @minad@mastodon.world @oantolin@mathstodon.xyz I see that you use boon. I'm going through the readme and it looks like it doesn't implement bindings for other major modes (dired, magit, etc.). Do you also define bindings separately per major mode?

@jaredj@mastodon.bsd.cafe Interesting! Skimming over the docs, it seems like it's very similar to God-mode. The latter has even fewer key presses.

@tarsius@fosstodon.org @yantar92@fosstodon.org @screwlisp@gamerplus.org @minad@mastodon.world @oantolin@mathstodon.xyz Ah makes sense. Somehow to me vanilla bindings on a regular keyboard seem counter ergonomic by design. But I've not tried it for long so I can't be too sure.

@yantar92@fosstodon.org @screwlisp@gamerplus.org @tarsius@fosstodon.org @minad@mastodon.world @oantolin@mathstodon.xyz I prefer to use home row keys (to me it feels more ergonomic). C-x I tried initially but then I could feel some strain on my pinky.

@Mehrad@fosstodon.org Do you happen to use a normal keyboard for this or would it be split keys with home row mods?

@screwlisp@gamerplus.org Interesting! Do you happen to use an esoteric style of keyboard (split keys and whatnot)? I've heard in those cases, it's easier to use the vanilla keybindings.

@yantar92@fosstodon.org Interesting! I wasn't aware of boon. I'll check it out. Would you say your modal editing is more vim like or is it simply customized to your preferences?

I'm currently looking at meow since they state in their readme: "Meow aims to blend modal editing into Emacs with minimal interference with its original key-bindings, avoiding most of the hassle introduced by key-binding conflicts."
Looks like it might be a smoother transition from evil compared to directly moving to vanilla bindings. (2/2)
Interested to hear what package authors use too: @tarsius@fosstodon.org @minad@mastodon.world @oantolin@mathstodon.xyz @yantar92@fosstodon.org

Curious to know what the majority of #emacs users use for the keybindings i.e. vanilla or modal editing (evil, meow, etc.).
Coming from vim, it's hard to get rid of evil and it almost always conflicts with emacs packages where the author did not intend for modal keybindings to work. (1/2)

@redstarfish@freesoftwareextremist.com Hmm not sure why that would happen but I'd recommend reporting this on the emacs mailing list: http://mail.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/help-gnu-emacs

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I'm pretty sure there's a group of US lobbyists behind this chat control. How interesting that even after voting a stern NO, they still demand another vote. What a clown show.
