On June 24, the OSMI Board meeting welcomed two new members — Kristina Vrouwenvelder (WG3 Co-chair) & Kornelia Tzinova (UNESCO representative) — and reviewed progress across working groups, setting the course ahead. A new strategic partnership was announced to expand OSMI's global reach.

Meet the first Steering Board of OSMI! We are proud to introduce a capable, international group of 20 experts who will lead the initiative going forward.

Starting in 2026, OSMI will be governed by a Steering Board that sets the main guidelines and strategy, oversees the Coordination Committee, and decides on the creation and closing of working groups.

They will meet for the first time in Q1 2026.

Success in open science monitoring means a sustainable, globally equitable, community-driven metadata infrastructure. No single institution can build that infrastructure alone.

OSMI’s Working Group 4 ‘Shared resources and infrastructure to analyze scholarly outputs’ Co-chairs, Pragya Chaube and Cristina Huidiu have published the results of their survey ‘Mapping the State of Open Science Infrastructure,’ which help envision how the open science monitoring movement can succeed.

The call for nominations is closed! OSMI has received 16 expert nominations to the Steering Board. This body will set the main guidelines and strategy for OSMI, oversee the work of the Coordination Committee, and decide on the creation or closure of working groups.

Next, the initiators of OSMI will vote to select the 5 experts who will join the Steering Board in 2026.
