My hot take is that most collecting hobbies aren't actually collecting. They are shopping hobbies.

Collecting implies curation and uh... A lot of the posts about collections I see don't seem to have that much curation going on.

But shopping hobbies are ok. Shopping is after all fun. Especially when it's something you actually like and are interested in, as opposed to like, groceries because you need to eat.

Adventures are messy tiresome things. And they aren't always fun. And they take effort and money and planning. But they are so damn rewarding.

I think that technology abstracts us from adventures. So instead of going out on a walk to go see the local river or trees you wind up getting sucked into travel videos. It's abstract. It's in a screen. You are passive, you aren't really doing much except consuming. You aren't walking or smelling, or creating new information you just exist.

But it's easy.

I had a good day riding my motorcycle. It's so nice when the weather plays ball, the roads are empty, and the route is scenic. Not the best picture, but here was one of the views.

I have been at work for twenty minutes and I'm already ready to go home and watch anime

Part of what renewed/sparked my interest in #fountainpens again, was #WitchHatAtelier and their use of pens and magic seals for magic. Like... look at this lovingly painted magic stationary shop! And yes they are dip pens... (but dip pens are a step too far in the way of impracticality when you don't have a desk of your own)...

Oh yeah I also adore the fuckoff huge tree in the middle of the store.

In ten minutes I will ride my motorcycle home, leaving work behind, to go eat food, watch anime, and ponder fountain pens and journal possibilities.

My current job is at a motorcycle accessories store. I swear to God the people that do my head in are the ones who are getting all the gear with no fucking idea.

Me: what have you done to make you feel the need for this kit?

"Nothing, I also have nothing planned that would use it, but like, it looks cool."

Sure. Come on like actually buy kit which you will use.

Maybe I'm on too much of a budget to understand though.

I just watched the motogp and 4/5 of the top five being Aprillia? No Ducati on the podium? It feels like the end of an era. This is nuts. Maybe marrying the bike actually is something that pays off...

On a sadder note, Honda almost got a 5th place. And then mechanical issues. Poor Mir.

With the recent #discord drama going on I've been thinking about online spaces. Especially discord servers.

I feel like a year or two ago I was making at least a few new friends a year. And now? I'm not. I'm not looking for new spaces or new community, I'm not reaching out to new people like I used to...

It's like the friend and community finding part of my brain isn't active anymore. It's strange.

I keep hearing about discord implementing ID policies. And deploying AI. It's unfortunate that it really is the best chat and VC space at the moment.
