Well, fuck. I guess that's it. The wife is still firm on not being able to be married to a woman (and the pathologizing of transness) and I've finally admitted that I don't want to keep pretending to be a dude. There's nothing for it but separation. We've said it. I feel sick.

For those of you who said "are you sure she's actually being rational" or "are you sure this will matter" congratulations on calling it. That scientific consensus is clear on this, and the WHO of all orgs is unequivocal about trans people not being mentally ill "doesn't help." I guess... I guess I start thinking about what life will be like without our marriage in it. She already has, so I have some catching up to do.

This reflects current knowledge that trans-related and gender diverse identities are not conditions of mental ill-health, and that classifying them as such can cause enormous stigma.

@LadyJessica@kind.social That's the trick, though: she's not denying that the world is unfair to trans folks. She's just focused on the pathologism and pity.

Looking for scientific resources. My wife got suckered into "trans people are severely mentally ill and should be pitied and treated" talking points and I would appreciate help finding resources that show that pathologizing is both incorrect and harmful. Retoots appreciated.

Hi! I don't know what name I should use, so for now call me Kira. I live in Canada. I like #Anime and #VideoGames and #Rust and #ScienceFiction and #Fantasy and #PublicTransit and #Urbanism and other things too. I'm on the quiet nerd boy to #trans woman pipeline, but in an eddy because though I'm a #lesbian my wife of many years is not. And I love my marriage and my kid and our life and can't see myself risking it to transition.

So this is where I will, probably obnoxiously, yearn for a life where I could have it all and transition too. My therapist said I should reach out to the community and so here I am.
