I’m with you. We’ve had holidays in Wales just about every year since 1998, the only time we came close to having a “staycation” was in 2020, for obvious reasons.

@Quantensalat almost… well, it depends! English spells both voiced (“then”) and voiceless (“thin”) dental fricatives the same, but Welsh uses “dd" for the voiced version ("bedd”), and "th" for voiceless (“beth”).

It's relatively trivial compared to some of the examples here, but I once travelled to deepest England for an art exhibition, and the artist's name was painted on the wall of the gallery as ÐAVID JONES, or “Ddavid Jones” in modern Welsh orthography.
He sometimes signed himself as "Dafyð”, and often used the Eth symbol in his inscriptions, but putting it at the beginning of his name is just nonsense, or Celtic bollocks as we call it round here.

@david_castleton the more specific name for raven is cigfran (meat-crow), the generic term for crow is brân. I went to school at Ysgol Dinas Brân, named after the castle we “English” kids called Crow Castle, but that seems to have died a death since I left

@elk It looks and feels fantastic, on the desktop and on mobile. The only thing that’s stopping me switching immediately is that the “post language” picker seems to default back to English (or maybe whatever interface language you have selected) after every toot, even in replies to my own toots. I mostly post in Welsh, and that’s my default language on my server preferences.
