@anildash This resonates so strongly with me. I find with so many new technologies (AI, blockchains, prediction markets), people on one side declare them as evil bullshit, and people on the other side over-hype them to try to quickly make loads of money off of people. And I always find myself in a middle ground that they are cool technologies, how can we deploy them in ways that empower people, rather than extract and harm to enrich a few.

We've been asking for Linux Arm builds in the Signal CI pipeline for years but it just isn't being prioritized or responded to. @carlrichell@fosstodon.org Do you have an idea of who is behind the push for these laws? It seemed odd that so many jurisdictions happened to take up this legislation at the same moment. There must be some group or organization pushing this but I never understood who or why.

Another good place to use #opensource software: election voting systems. Lower cost than proprietary systems and can be independently verified to do what it is supposed to.

@kop316 I just did this last night. Worked great. What method did you use to update the firmware though? After using MSM, the phone would be on OxygenOS 9.0.11. I think putting any Linux distro requires updating the OOS version (and firmware) to something newer. But my phone is not getting OTA updates. Is yours? Am also trying to use the Oxygen Updater app from Google Play Store, but haven't gotten that to work yet.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online Yelp fully blocks me from using their site on a mobile browser, you get a pop up to open the app and no alternative way forward. I don't want their app. And I also don't get why they do that.
