@grimmy To be fair, 27 years ago when the project started, assuming that there would be some sort of entity capable of holding the copyright on contributed code, and bing responsible for it, was... a perfectly reasonable assumption. Until relatively recently 'generated' code was generally deterministic, the liability/accountability/sources of potential license problems landscape has shifted pretty significantly, pretty suddenly.

(How much do they modify things from the upstream devs? What sort of assumptions does it make? What's the worst thing the maintainer has said publicly since the last release?
Like, there's a lot of useful info you can include in a distro review, most of it more important than what their KDE install is setup to look like in the 10 minutes before you replace the background with your favourite anime catgirl picture and change the theme to match.)

(it's just an odd sort of trend in reviews I've noticed.
Like - the desktop on most distros can be re-created by installing whatever environment and downloading a theme and wallpaper.
It being nice for a default setting is good, and deserves *some* time in a review - but like.... What does the distro *DO*, what decisions were made about how it *works*, does it use X, Wayland, Both, Neither? GNU core utils or the sketchy rust re-writes? Which init system does it use? etc.)

... Distro review videos are very strange.
Like, there is value in doing reviews of distros, BSDs, major-release reviews, etc.
But a lot of the videos seem to focus on things like the default config for the default desktop enviornment, and neglect things like what software comes with the base install, what decisions were made about the base install, custom/unique features, things that determine how the distro *works* rather than how it looks.
(Not all, prob not even most, are like this >)

Is rar support through libarchive, or does it pull in one of the non-free-license things? (I can't remember if calibre wasn't an option on debian without the nonfree repo, I thought it was available on some fsf-approved distros though, so it's odd to me they have rar support.)

(I agree doing this to your own kids is bad - just, this seems to not be a *new* antifeature, nor limited to gnome? Controlling parents have always been able to be controlling to their kids on linux.)
