Just finished recording the last few lines for Samael in the new season of the VtM: Blood Doll audio drama! Really excited about the performances across the board for this one. It's been a joy, listening to the performances change over time as the actors involved grow into and with their characters through the season.

@kit Yeah!! The edit was as simple as finding an Italian dubbed film of the exact same cut and timing, and mixing the audio to swap between English and Italian.

@doraii When he was interviewed upon being selected for the role, he basically said he wasn't going to try to sound like Mario; that the studio selected him because of his voice, not because of his Mario impression. He refused to use almost any of the traditional catchphrases. In short, with Chris in the role, the film feels like a Chris Pratt movie and not a Mario movie. And also Chris Pratt is not an ally, so I don't like to hear his voice even if it was well performed.

I've also included subtitles with this release! After watching through the film, I realized there was only one line that needed to be translated to make the whole film parse properly. (It's like they realized how bad a decision Chris Pratt was as Mario, and cut most of his lines from the film!) So, naturally, I edited the subtitles to match the edited film. :dragn_tea:

I really enjoyed making this edit. I was aiming for changing the story only slightly; it's clear the Mario family are Italian immigrants, so it makes sense that not all of them have a strong grasp of English yet. Luigi is always there for his brother, and often ends up translating for him in effect early on in the film. Their father also speaks Italian to his family during periods of emotional intensity.

@xfts@fuzzies.wtf You might check out Qobuz or Deezer as options that are decidedly better than Spotify, but even YouTube isn't directly funding war crimes in gaza, has a more fair profit share for artists, and doesn't play ads for ICE in the US. Migrating to the lesser of two evils is still a net good. Ideally we'd all go back to owning our own content, but that's been intentionally made more difficult in the modern age.

I've been weaning myself from all streaming providers for a long while now and host my own library via Plex to stream to my mobile devices, which is an excellent solution, but a lot more fiddly than most users are willing to engage with. Going from physical media to something you can listen to on your phone has gotten more and more difficult as time has marched forward- on purpose, I suspect.
