@FlUxIuS@infosec.exchange this looks very interesting. I have a question, if I may ask… why is the “single file” approach described as a pro in the comparison with @cryptomator@mastodon.online? Surely a single file container may have its advantages, but not in a cloud drive scenario. The multiple files of a Cryptomator vault play very well with Dropbox and pCloud and they can even be recovered from the trash (of course you would need to guess the name).

The more I stay on #Mastodon the more it starts to feel like Twitter/X. The unwarranted personal attacks and meaningless arguments I thought I had left behind start to show up even here.

It's not a platform problem, it's a people problem. Humans are humans, no matter where they write their posts.

@benroyce @Vivaldi you should open the "Privacy and Security" panel in the settings... you will find some surprises. Like the fact that some Google services are enabled by default in Vivaldi, unless the user opts out. And you are getting mad because one person is suggesting that LLM integration should be opt-in. Priorities, I guess.

@dalias well, if I did that, maybe... but given that I didn't, the point is freaking moot. I asked Vivaldi what they plan to do about users' choice. Given that Vivaldi is one of the most customizable browser in the world, that is a very valid question. Anyway, it's always funny to see how anti-AI zealots get triggered. More or less the same as far-right extremists when we try to explain to them that immigrants and LGBT individuals are people, too.

Interessante evoluzione sul fronte del sequestro dei dati digitali: la #Cassazione impone al PM di essere molto più preciso su cosa acquisire e perché, evitando le classiche “copie forensi totali” senza limiti.

È un passo avanti, ma il nodo resta il controllo del giudice, che oggi arriva solo dopo e solo se qualcuno lo chiede.

@noodlemaz @Vivaldi is a knife unethical and damaging? It isn’t. Murder is unethical and damaging, but cutting a cake is not. Fight inappropriate usage, not tools. Now people have to rely on third-party services that are not provided in the browser. Luckily both DuckDuckGo and Infomaniak provide good, privacy-preserving solutions (Duck AI and Euria respectively).

@Gaelan @hanno I read the whole thing and it does not show any signs of being LLM content. It’s quite a solid piece of research that, unlike many other posts, actually explain the vulnerability in terms that can be understood even by junior developers.

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net as a person who always recommends Vivaldi to friends wanting a better browser, I am wonder if the AI-hating niche is a good target for spreading Vivaldi to as many users as possible. 😅 I remember when you announced that Vivaldi would bypass the browser checks on Bing Copilot, that was very welcome news. More choice for people is always a good thing.

Which is good. Because we can trust Vivaldi that their service is privacy-focused. But when a service is not provided by Vivaldi, people will have to find alternatives. Some of us know about Duck AI or Euria by Infomaniak, but many others will just open ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot. This is a loss for privacy.

I spoke at several free events in which the standard was to pay travel+hotel. I do not expect to charge a speaker’s fee, but if you invite me to spend time in Belgium, I am already giving up a few DAYS of billable hours. At least don’t have me pay for this “privilege”.

@dottorblaster@fosstodon.org @Luanti@floss.social the fact that FOSDEM attracts a lot of public and sponsors but does not pay speakers (at least travel and accommodation) is absurd. I was invited to speak in the open-source Digital Forensics section and I had to decline for this reason.
