@afeinman@wandering.shop @david_chisnall@infosec.exchange that seems to be the analogy everyone is going for, but I think it's very wrong. There are oppinions to be had about about a governmental policy that amounts to "we will not intervene into your dedication to getting cancer".
But that's not that. "Social" media, if we must push the tobacco analogy, is second hand smoking, but even worse. All the smokers are inentionally exhaling in your face and being offended if you don't inhale deeply.
Algorithm based, advertisement funded "social" media propagates societal decay far outside its own walls. It ends up financing the worst possible political, business and ideological circles of society. And because it's an inherently amoral enterprise it always incentivises and outright rewards the most amoral actors.
