Month ago we got new furniture in house. So now I got a grey bed to sleep on. There is extra pillow on it sometimes, it's also warm to touch.This Scottish fold pillow like to be on top of other pillows as you see.

@alice@lgbtqia.space I might as well say thank you. Joined Mastodon.social when Reddit mobile api fiasco happened (not strong with dates without looking up). It was okay for most of it but your post pointing out how bad open registration without any verification and how it's abused made me try to leave my comfortable zone and move to less populated instance that have pre approval process. So thanks for bringing that issue up, opening discussions that motivated more people to talk about it. Now it's even worse then it was then and pre approval servers suffer due LLM trained on good vibes to pass simple empathy of a instance moderator. I like you as a person and you helping people to be better and giving them push that they need. So keep being you! I rarely talk outside my group of interests and more likely to join conversation then start one myself. So this is one of those moments where I join conversation to say thanks for giving me that little push and thanks for highlighting problems that are accepted as is, where people get shunned while bots should have more acceptance because of "free content".

@timixretroplays@digipres.club So to sum up - we want Nuclear reactors as green energy. we want to use nuclear reactors to power AI data centers. we want to use water to cool both data centers and Nuclear reactors. river water too hot for both data centers and Nuclear reactors. still better than solar, wind, water energy source. also also we much choose between EU aiming for fighting global warming or AI data centers I might be not a scientist, but I think I know how house of cards easily falls if not for money pushing for dumb decisions.

I have lots of people that ask me to help with their pc or specific problem. As @Hex@kolektiva.social pointed out, I don't have inherent knowledge of problem, most of the times I just go blind and fishing for answers from person who asked me or pc I have to work with. Sometimes it's general "pc don't work, help!" Sometimes it's "I need these documents to be digitally signed but my pc doesn't see usb key".
Situations vary and honestly, most of the times it's tried and true (turn off and on, remove and insert again) or bit convoluted when pc need to be forced in some way to work properly. So nothing that would require professional education, but you get moniker "computer guy" because you can analyse and look for clues, refer to prior experience, understand second language (because English interwined in most technology). Problems that person can solve by themselves or by looking online for answers, but implicit trust I earned will lead to get asked in future.

People are too trusting to others when they shouldn't be, as sharing your pc especially corporate one is not bright idea. Then we get LLM an epitome of being good helper, which get access to everything. Why people trust program in the cloud more than people? Why default state to be wary of others while completely trust LLM?

@anxietynectarr@mastodon.social you have lots of replies in this post, so you can pay attention to name handles. Just the ability to talk between different servers is biggest fun part of it. Honestly, best way to find which one you would like to move (you will lose post history but will redirect your followers and follows to new account) is to talk with people and check server rules. Some are less strict while others more protective so different places for different needs.

I am fine with idea of alt text so I struggle but do some for photos (mostly of my cat) and sometimes screenshots. As alt text is available everywhere on Fedi, finding Japanese fan artists for the game I enjoy and then some manga panels but... You can guess. Without OCR you need to be native or have some degree in Japanese to read, even with OCR it's still a struggle to translate. As person with rather still good eyesight (after whole childhood behind the screen) I still appreciate alt text not only as explainer but also as focusing on important parts, telling neat details or plain and simple have text on image in plain text to copy and translate. My English is above average but it's not my native, I sometimes attribute different meanings to words. So if some wording pique my interest to shove it in dictionary and see synonyms, I appreciate ability to copy paste. I would hope that more artists described their art or at least comic/manga panels to include alt text.

I will try something using diaspora. Honestly I left reddit due mobile API bullshit and head from Reddit about Mastodon. Later I just gone on journey and made several accounts... Some abandoned, but still tried everything, learned new and all thanks to people who host and allow to make accounts. Wonder how people feel paying Bluesky instead of server owner or they like me, can't afford and using for free. Never thinking to pay back. Everyone knows Mastodon as it's easy to recommend and has presence, but there whole world behind that small frame :blobcatheart:

@FearlessPotato@mastodon.social Not really. YouTube gives opportunity without renting cost, so for uploading something it's easiest option which means lots of variety. Honestly if my father couldn't live without TV and watching sports, same goes for me with watching YouTube and gameplay videos. I would really want peertube as option in my daily life but I yet to find someone I wish to watch. I have like 10~ people I subscribed and actively daily watch and sometimes whatever YouTube offers on home page. But several attempts searching peertube gave lots of informative videos... But no gameplay I would be invested watching.

Give sneak preview of what you working on and even if leaves follower only containment it's not big fuss. It is true that you should look at DM/Follower only and global posts in same way on Fedi. You never know who 3rd party actor will betray your trust, so sharing something in DM or followers only that you won't say in normal post is a no go.

Funny that before reddit blackout I had 13+ years there but making a point and killing off mobile applications so only either chosen one or official mobile app left. Now I am 4+ years on Fedi.
I didn't find community for things I am interested (mostly gaming related) but I saw many positive, interesting, various and educational stuff. Many discussions that won't be in open or get hidden from main feed because Reddit/twitter/etc will hide it and only few invested people will talk with same few people.

There lots of problems on Fediverse but at least I have options to be here without forced official mobile app, recommended content and of course the changes that you never wanted.
Thanks YouTube but I want my subscriptions in chronological order, I dont need most relevant or video shorts. You can manipulate home page and feed algorithm but don't break stuff that works as intended.

I think it's biggest thing I like about Fediverse, you can't break things that work as intended else you move to other software that will keep things as you like.

@Viss just gave a glance on telemetry on both Librewolf and Firefox. There are turned on sub options on Librewolf... but there are so many more stuff in normal firefox and some really specific identifiers that as casual user I like.... wtf? I now worried about my old laptop with win7 and old mozilla if they done this bullshit on Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) where you can't turn on ai so easily.

@ShaulaEvans Got English degree in University 10+ years ago. Never got into working as translator professionally. Mostly due speaking Russian (native) and English while none of Romanian (local/government). Never attempted to freelance as well, so all my education is mostly for self serving purpose and deeper understanding of English and Russian as well, because language is a topic with lots of nuances and cultural colours. So always getting fascinated with translation work and problems but never experienced from professional point of view. Would love to do some low pressure translation work just to flex my language muscles. :blobcat_dab:

@ifixcoinops@retro.social It's pretty recent but last 5 months I put yunohost on my old pc, got yunohost free domain offer and now I have few personal services for me and my family while having owncast as my personal website where I streaming games. Knowing how some projects are lightweight and some are more demanding... I tempted to do hey why not ActivityPub x for community... But then I catch myself more on how less processing power I will be left when I use it as my personal media server... Still having little experience with Freebsd server setup... If you ever want 0 knowledge and spare pc/laptop then would recommend yunohost, when everything is done it just an appstore experience which many of us familiar.

Personal note is not talked about a lot which also might mean people never use it which as you pointed out, can give first time warning for your future self how to deal with x person instead of relying on memory. Never found twitter usefulness so never was attached personally myself, moved from reddit to Mastodon and then explored whole Fediverse and found it attractive. Bluesky showing up late also was factor of "why bother, Fediverse not perfect but I like the appeal for growth". What really concerning for me, that academic side didn't lean on Fediverse being in between closed spaces (twitter/Bluesky) and going anonymous comments. Self published blog with ActivityPub regardless of jankiness still a good opportunity to have people interact with your content while having history behind accounts, as well relieving burden of registration/holding account information/dealing with bot network registration and having semi anonymous data gathering. We all part of algorithm be it twitter, Bluesky or google for independent blogs, so why bother with combination of social media+ Google when you can only appeal to Google + Fediverse instead?

@aks@scalie.zone I am guilty myself of not thanking FOSS developers or just random guide makers. Being boy who only knows how to troubleshoot stuff on windows and installing/reinstalling stuff and having task to get Freebsd server up... Like even if you have zero coding experience, there are guides that help you to do everything you need to do step by step, all lines of codes. I might never need it now after years of not touching Freebsd, but still someone done the hard part explaining me what to do. Like lots of stuff I done from reinstall of Windows to installing programs. I am far off from being digitally independent, android phone, win10, google mail, several chat programs because family uses them... But setting up my own old pc with Yunohost and having personal server makes me really appreciate all FOSS out there. Can't setup personal email with my provider but translation,some file hosting and few other good quality of live services. Will slowly move to gaming Linux as well when win10 is absolete but it's a slow process. Looking at all recent news, I am more and more wary about personal and juridical information getting leaked, especially with win11 cloud saving and later AI integration. One FOSS developer was really happy getting email that says thanks for making x. We should give more thanks for people who makes our lives for better. :blobcatheart:

@Crell@phpc.social as someone who didn't work in tech directly but like to read or see stuff from other experts. I saw that LLM is a blight pretty early myself (I think). I heard that it's a must have as many innovations humankind made... While person will never bother looking up how many innovations humankind made be they failing along the way or being cruelest but efficient. LLM hammered in into everyone as it's a toy, playful stuff so you shouldn't worry about costs. The longer it goes the worse it gets but those who get burned are miniscule compared to those who only started using LLM. We as society know about microplastics, covid, LLM, global warming but society will still use plastic everyday, won't wear mask in public transport, will play around with LLM, will contribute to organisations that burn our ecology to the ground. There also wars be it your neighbour, yourself or far away from you. So there that whole aspect that affects our planet but you... The individual is the problem for not changing your habits. But it always comes that one does what everyone do, so few people masking doesn't mean everyone in bus will mask. You being vegan won't make others eat less. You not smoking won't stop assholes from smoking in public place. Social drinking is a must for most cultures. You have to go against flow, you don't need to do all of the good stuff but changing to be vegan or to avoid use LLM... I think it's pretty easy to do one then other.
