I stopped to get gas today, behind a truck with a UP bumper sticker. I set the gas going and call to the guy ahead of me: "You from the UP, or just a fan?" He looks confused; I point to the sticker. "Oh, that. No, I'm from Michigan though. Ann Arbor." Me: "I grew up in the UP." Him: "It's beautiful up there, but so cold." As we're talking, it's 45 F, he's dressed in jeans and a jacket and a hat; I'm there in T-shirt, shorts, sandals. He looks at me and just shakes his head. #yooper #today

A man stole a Boulder Fire-Rescue engine right after being released from the Boulder County Jail on Wednesday morning. Officials recovered it in Longmont and arrested the man suspected of stealing it.

@bolderbekah@mastodon.social That's a fair point. This was a delete-after-a-day sort of post and on reflection I think I'm deleting faster than that. The in-group social dynamics are weird, a dysfunctional close-knitness that I don't see in other circles. But analogies don't capture it well and hanging this laundry in the front yard wasn't the best choice.
