Just got set up with 2gpbs fiber and now I need to redo all of the network cabling I put into my home office because it's only 1gpbs T_T

@nixCraft@mastodon.social even in a theoretical ideal scenario where AI is able to really increase productivity - management just demands even more insane deadlines, leading to a net increase in developer stress and burnout. It's a lose-lose for sure

Not "all [people] are created equal", but "all people *are* equal." Love your neighbor as yourself / the golden rule means seeing the needs of others as equal to your own needs, or the needs of your group. "Created equal" leaves room for some people to *become* better than others, which allows us to dehumanize people at our discretion by convincing ourselves that their needs are due to their own shortcomings and therefore not our concern. Just a random thought for the void this morning

@janamarie@mystical.garden what would you suggest as an alternative vendor for small electronics, breakout boards, microcomputers, etc? Adafruit is basically the extent of my limited exposure to this space and I'd prefer not to buy from Amazon

@argv_minus_one @nixCraft They're using LibreSprite! I haven't used a lot of pixel art or animation software but it seems good and really easy to use. One of my favorite computer memories is using MS Paint with my dad on our Windows 98 PC. I'm really happy to get to make similar memories with my kids.

@argv_minus_one @nixCraft there's also a difference in the kind of activity that is generally done on a computer vs phone. My kids have an old laptop with linux on it, which I originally set up for Lego Spike, but since they've had it they have gotten really into pixel art and animations. They're also learning about saving files, navigating file systems, user accounts and passwords, etc. They even learned how to set variables and echo stuff in the bash terminal.

@lettosprey@tech.lgbt @matthew@mastodon.me.uk @davidcelis@xoxo.zone 100% - it's a much bigger version of the problem "why bother understanding how to do this effectively when I can just add 5 more useEffects and some extra state variables" and instead of figuring out what you need where, you end up getting the same data 3 different times and making the client side experience awful and buggy. Now you don't even have to figure out how to do it wrong, you don't have to figure out anything
