What a difference when you use a proper ESP-WROOM-32. Flashed and connected immediately - no wasted two days of wondering what was going wrong.

On the bright side; I now know how to use a wire-wrap gun, and v2 #ESPsomfy will be a neater job for #HomeAssistant .

REMEMBER Friends don't let friends use crappy ESP32-C3 SuperMini clones with a ground plane almost touching the chip antenna! 🤦

Instant ewaste.

Don't be tempted to use ESP32-C3 SuperMini modules. I found out too late that the WLAN PCB antenna is utterly mince on some very cheap copies.

Out of 5x modules, not one would reliably broadcast a visible AP, nor connect.
Even this promising antenna hack only got one on the network... intermittently. 😞

ESPsomfy , ESPhome , and Tasmota all failed due to hardware over two days of testing.😡

Trying again with better ESP32's... later!

After finding #BitWarden doesn't have an "Export Folder" option, I've written some Python to process an unencrypted JSON vault and extract ONE folder to a new file.

https://github.com/FloatingBoater/bitwardenfolder

This is enough to extract creds to share, without setting up organisations (my experiments hit enterprise-scale sysadmin pain with Folders/Collections!).

No sync, but importing again seems to create a new folder with the same name (so manually sync and delete).

Tested with #BitWarden and #VaultWarden .

@simon If I had a penny for every time I've unpicked a needlessly complicated multi-polygon relation with tens of chopped-up shared way segments, and replaced then with two simple ways, I could buy us both a beer! 🍻 😢 Map for maintenance, #SimpleIsBetter , don't try to be too clever in #OpenStreetMap (Oh, and learn about the #JOSM balloon tool - much easier for landcover, even when construction lines are needed to constrain it.)

@corbet My subscription to LWN is entirely based on your reputation. Curated, high-quality information, written by technical folks at the heart of Linux / FOSS communities for decades. An island of quality, in a sea of regurgitated slop from stochastic parrots.

@mjg59@nondeterministic.computer Good shout - I used the same library to get the Roomba creds for local MQTT control from Home Assistant: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/roomba/#manually-retrieving-your-credentials Looks like mapping data retrieval has been added since I last looked - great!
