“Hmm, it’s been a while since I’ve played Celeste, but YouTube’s been showing me a lot of speedruns and related videos. I wonder how fast I could complete it if I put an attempt in”
Immediately got distracted trying to grab every strawberry and the crystal heart in chapter 1. (Got 17/20, missed the cassette.)
💭 Imagine what tram trains would have to look like if we’d standardised on broad gauge rather than 1435mm.
RealTimeTrains is pulling data from the alternative reality where today’s Eurostar wasn’t curtailed to start from Bruxelles due to engineering work near Rotterdam.
I’m confused by Monzo lately.
They offered to add one of external bank account for free, so I added my AmEx.
Then they told me I had a free trial of Plus, which I didn’t use anything from
Then they said my trial was ending soon, and I’d lose my external account. Easy come, easy go, I guess
Then my trial ended and the AmEx disappeared
Then they offered to add one external account for free, again.
I should have known I’d crossed the border to Belgium by the way my 4G dropped to EDGE.
Vending machines that would be illegal in the UK
Ah yes, the three genders:
• Men
• Disabled
• Genderqueer
Apple Maps: “Turn left onto the bridge”
The bridge:
Walking to the conference venue, I wondered why there were tram lines all over the place but Maps was telling me the quickest route was to walk
Turns out Delft is getting a brand new tram line, currently in the testing phase, opening slightly too late for this trip.
Always amazing to see cities building new trams! (Even if I don’t get to ride them!)
Somewhat surprising observation: the code I’m working on running in Docker on my M1 MacBook Pro (in an arm64 container, not via Rosetta) runs appreciably slower than running natively on an old mid-2010s Intel iMac.
The evening before I head to Delft is the best time to find out that I’ve somehow lost _all_ of my Europlug to ISO/IEC C17 cables and duck heads.
There's a crow in my garden whose call is five rapid, staccato clacks, with an accent on the last one. This also happens to be the first five notes of Philip Sparke's "Year of the Dragon", so the crow keeps earworming me.
I find it funny that while England were losing the World Cup last night, I was listening to November Kelly talk about how they were going to win.
@ariadne@social.treehouse.systems @m@martinh.net Have you tried running make clean?
Spotted on a blackboard in a physics department.
Is it pluralphobic to name myself after a fictional character who isn’t an introject (if that’s the right way of phrasing it?)?
> finally get a hire car for a work trip rather than taking mine
> have to take it back to get them to open the charge port as it’s jammed
> go to charge it the night before
> have lost key
> spend evening looking for key, fail
> looks like I’m taking my car after all
Why am I like this?
I finally consolidated some thoughts that have been knocking around my head for a while around how you can combine two existing Japanese technologies to enable sleeper services on the Shinkansen.
(Many thanks to @sleepytako@famichiki.jp for hunting for Shinkansen diagrams to enable this!)

Has anyone else noticed a phase transition in YouTube ads in the last couple of weeks, where suddenly 80% of ads are for slop idle/mobile games, and come with an extra banner ad that has to be dismissed otherwise it persists over the video?

How do you make a loss when you’re a landlord with almost zero operating costs?
