I am moving to a usage-based billing Dear employer, I will no longer charger a flat monthly salary, instead I will move to token based billing. Included will be every token I receive as input, including but not limited to emails, slack messages, spoken words and mandatory multi-modal meetings that could have been emails. Included will also be output tokens in the form of code, documentation and small talk. Tokens will also be consumed by my internal monolog as I reason about problems. #ai

This article is wild, on many levels. First is their main point, that the big tech firms are pretending to be profitable by counting the value of Anthropic as profit, when that value is just speculation. But also the first paragraph, how the four big are planning to spend 700 billion dollars this year on data centers! That's $100 per person on earth!

@kwramm @yiningkarlli I've been part of some "rewrite it from scratch" projects before, which is why I'm now a No Engineer who instead says "we should rework our existing solution, not rewrite it". The number of times the spec has been "the new system should do everything the old system does, but with new technology" and then nobody knows what the old system does, or why. And LLMs don't fix that part (no, not even with spec driven development)

@bodil@social.treehouse.systems no, that's the point. It's not a coincidence that these people want to command a computer to do things with vague natural language (rather than a domain specific language that would require effort), it's the same reason they build humanoid robots that all look miserable while they are doing basic chores. The suffering of a seemingly sentient being IS the goal.

China exported 68GW of solar panels in one month! The total electricity generated by coal, oil and gas in the world is 16 000TWh, so if we could get that amount of solar panels every month it would take 10 years to replace all of that fossil fuel with just solar energy.

Jeg har lagd en nettleser extension som bytter ut de dårlige overskriftene på nettavisen.no med tittelen fra artikkelen, noe som gir en mye bedre forside. Det var veldig enkelt for nettavisen fordi de faktisk har gode overskrifter, men det burde være mulig for andre clickbait sider også.

@boostmarks @rem it also works in Google maps and Google images, so I think maybe it's an android thing? It's pretty weird, no idea how often it is used, but could be useful if you need to zoom an only use one hand. You can even zoom in and out a few times and then quickly flick to power zoom with momentum!

@davatron5000 given that there are open source models where you don't have to pay for the training you save (according to this video) half the cost of running it, it means it can be half as good as the best models and still be competitive to use.

You have to start using it now, or you will get left behind
It's so simple that anyone can do it, you don't need any prior experience
New in 2026: you can forget everything you did with AI in 2025, it is outdated and of no value anymore, in fact it's detrimental if you don't keep up

@jani@floss.social apparently you need to use the latest model. But if the latest model 6 months ago was good enough to create software 6 months ago, then it must still be good enough to create software this month. And if today's model can't be used in 6 months (because there is a newer one) then it can't be used today either. Having to pay for the latest model is only true if you are in a competition, not of you want to create something useful.
