@aks@scalie.zone do you think so? I don't know. I don't like discord, but my nieces and brother (who aren't super technical) can enjoy this with me while being 10000km away. We also watch movies together by streaming VLC. I loathe discord's UX and the company, but I don't see all this packed in an easy to use package any time soon unfortunately. (I tend not to join any discord servers though)

@kev it's a good move. I did it a while ago. I still have a GitHub account because Microsoft of course doesn't let you browse codebases without being logged in (in a very dick move), so you kind of need one from time to time.

It's driven by profit (meaning money > human), and it will always be. You're trusting current AI companies. You're trusting the Mark Zuckerbergs of AI, and I don't understand why. I know you personally, so I'm a bit surprised about your adamant blindness towards the issues this new AI culture creates. This will not end well for humans.

Inevitably, tech companies, shareholders, capitalism, etc., are going to do the wrong thing given a choice. It has been proven countless times in the past. AI is bad for everyone at different levels. And it's mostly expensive noise today. It will (already has) obliterate the tech industry as we know it; it will make humans worse. It is, after all, a world juggler.

I use and prefer open source and even contribute myself in many various ways. The alternatives to iOS or Android are severely limited. And I mean practically unusable given the necessities and expectations of most modern life. Do I like this? No. Can I change this? Also no. That's it. The hate is towards people saying "don't do this or that, do this other thing instead because I say it's better". All the love to PostmarketOS.

Plain and simple. Unless you have a lot of money in cash (and even then, you'd need to go under the table for a lot of things). Both iOS and Android put out a *lot* of sense in what your app can and can't do. Yes you can go ways around the OS and APIs to circumvent these things, but it would be all over the news if all apps easily did this. With the level of API access required to do what modern apps need to do, a PWA could easily do the same things you claim "a binary" can do. WebApps have a place. Not all apps fit there.

LibreWolf is a similar alternative to Firefox if you just want the engine. You have choices but you're being a bit pedantic about the Mozilla Foundation (with all its faults) being the same as Google because they use their search engine and get paid. Change the default search engine. Would it be ideal if they didn't need that money? Yes. But for that they need users. Users that don't complain about that to get started...
