@oz1lqo@techhub.social Hmm - I've got some BF494s :-) Strange bias on the first two transistors - operating current would seem to depend on the HFE (gain) of the transistors but the DC voltages look about right. From the scope at 1uS/div the frequency for the 25x gain is about 500KHz. How stable is the gain with frequency? I guess, even if it rolls-off, the loop is also becoming a great fraction of a wavelength so that probably compensates a bit ... #hamradio #swl #rfengineer

@NH6SP@mastodon.radio Excellent choice! Nice audio and has transmit tone controls too - useful for tweaking your audio. A tip: holding down the Cent/Fix button reveals a mode I'd wanted but didn't realise existed: it scrolls the cursor across the waterfall rather than the default scrolling the waterfall and leaving the cursor fixed in the center. This mode is really nice for displaying a 50KHz section of the band during contests. #hamradio #amateurradio #ic7300

Took me a moment to realise (unlike 4NEC2) that Y is the vertical axis (not Z) - however on further fiddling Z really is the vertical axis but the little coloured X-Y-Z indicator seems to have Y and Z swapped/mislabelled. Here's an inverted-L end-fed via a 1:49 transformer #hamradio #amateurradio
