@vga256@mastodon.tomodori.net Just had another trawl without any success. But did find that it looks like the betas went up to IOXIIDC9-1.1b30.sit Although there's no sign it was ever released.

@colinstu@birdbutt.com @DosFox@tech.lgbt Yup. I've tried that one a few times. The ones that say they support iSight on Mac OS9 are only beta drivers and they used FTP instead of HTTP links which have not been archived by WBM. But @vga256@mastodon.tomodori.net found the IIDC beta driver. I can confirm that it does work! There's also a iSight1.1b26.sit file that remains unfound! Although no idea what extra functionality that offers over the IIDC ones.

@vga256@mastodon.tomodori.net I did not think it would work, however, @Eggfreckles@mastodon.mit.edu pointed me to a different driver for a different webcam which said it supported all IIDC webcams. I checked and supposedly the iSight supports the IIDC specification too! Unfortunately that did not work. So I tried to look for the IOXperts IIDC Mac OS 9 driver but I could not get it! But you did so thank you! I just need a mount now for my monitor! :-)

@vga256@mastodon.tomodori.net So no video but progress! I've been testing video from the webcam with BTV 5.4.1. Up to now it immediately complains there's no video hardware. Even with all the other drivers I have tried. But now it shows a white box! If I unplug the iSight then it instead complains there's no video hardware. Secondly I'm now getting “shareware nags" from the IOXperts driver saying it’s unlicensed. If I unplug the iSight then I get no reminders. So I’m sure it's recognising the iSight.

@vga256@mastodon.tomodori.net @misty@digipres.club Their drivers downloads were mostly HTTP link and have been archived. But the Mac OS9 iSight driver was still a beta and I can only find FTP links to it. Also their Mac OS9 IIDC drivers are also FTP links only. I’ve given all the Mac OS9 drivers I can download a try, with no luck!

Bit of a long shot but I’m looking (again!) for a Mac OS9 driver for the FW iSight webcam. It was not supported until OSX by Apple. But IOXperts did a beta driver that I'm guessing does support it (I think!). Unfortunately archive.org does not archive FTP and that's the only links I can find. I've been through all the other drivers and it's just “iSight1.1b26.sit” that I cannot find. I've just spent an hour trawling through Hotline servers with no luck! https://web.archive.org/web/20080623093642/http://lists.ioxperts.com/pipermail/video-beta-discuss/2003-October/000015.html

I heard a superb #Newton mention in the alternate history Apple TV series "All for Mankind' last night. In the SE5E03 “Home” episode an engineer was talking about an old spacecraft's navigation computer and said "Look at this? There's more power in my Newton.". (I may be wrong on the exact words!).

@mroach@ublog.mroach.com No luck finding that license. But quite by chance I have found CAP - Columbia Appletalk Package for IRIX. Appears to be a very old package with similar functionality to an early Netatalk. non-seed/seed AT router. AFP (called AuFS) and more. Opensource and free. Quite quickly got the AT router configured and got file sharing working as it defaults to your $HOME. Quite funky :-)

@btr@social.cpp.org.pl @warandpeas@mastodon.social @smallsco@oldbytes.space BTW your comments on Tashrouter logging using the DEBUG level causing issues are interesting. TashRouter (with Jrouter) has been very temperamental for me all through this Marchintosh. Whereas it was rock solid in the past. I did change the logging level back in January. Perhaps that is the reason? Anyway changed it to a less verbose level! Thanks!

After messing about for more or less the entire month of #marchintosh I've connected to #Globaltalk wirelessly from my Newton emate (THE LOCALTALK CABLE IS UNPLUGGED - WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?). No idea what I did right this time, but deleted all the packages and reinstalled for lime the tength time (I am exaggerating). It seemed not to work then I saw a new client appear on my ancient DD-WRT/WEP AP. I'll quickly print to various laserprinters that I can find!

@kalleboo@bitbang.social @paulrickards@mastodon.social I blame Microsoft for Windows 95! OS versioning was all going well until then.

@mroach ..and for buying the hardware the best time was to have never thrown it away, but the second best time is to acquire them now :-)

@mroach Yes. During my Ph.D. (molecular biology) I accessed an old Vax/VMS to run some bioinformatics software (for DNA sequence analysis). Generally just via telnet although every now and again I got access to the single XWindows client in the entire dept! Years later I ended up working for the company that developed that software but they'd dropped VMS support by then (just Linux, Tru64 and IRIX).

@mroach I bitterly regret seeing a very small VAX system sat in a second market stall 30 years ago. The guy wanted just £20 for it but my bag was full and I thought it will still be there next week. It wasn’t!
