@billgoats @europlus @DosFox I have been able to repair a few drives like that, as long as the spring steel is not cracked or stretched, by placing a drill bit just before the hinge and gently applying downward force to reshape the spring. The plastic head lifter part has to be removed of course. It takes many tries to get it back. It’s more of a massage back into shape rather than bending it. Then the tricky part is getting the head pressure correct. Compare with a healty drive.

@DosFox You mean the head itself is damaged or the head assembly bent out of alignment? I’ve seen a few of those lately. Time consuming and patience trying to fix 🫠

Wow! We can now overclock the Performa/LC 475 and Quadra 605 family in software. Even fine tuning the frequency is possible. All without any fiddling with SMD resistors. Amazing it took 30 years to figure this out. Nice work! #vintagemac #retrocomputing
