Equator Games

I couldn't look away from this remarkable exhibit at the Young V&A in London: a playset made of bricks and cement compound from about ninety years ago. As a child I would have enjoyed opening this up and digging in. As a game designer I would want to devise a way for the bricks to be reusable. And as an adult I would fear the noxious compounds possibly lurking inside that tube of "cement". #history #boardgames #games

Behold, the oldest known written instructions for a board game. This tablet, inscribed in cuneiform, is housed in the British Museum and describes the rules for playing what we now call the royal game of Ur. When I visited the museum the game set itself had been removed from the display case for "research". #history #boardgames #games
