@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us to be honest, I don't think it matters who wins. Public opinion will absolutely tank within the first year when their lives don't magically improve and we'll be doing this again.
That people think Farage will somehow be immune to this amuses me. Trump isn't, he's on his arse. How many candidates do Reform have for a leadership contest? They can barely form a cabinet.
Labour looking exactly like the last Tory governments already: too obsessed with perception & getting nothing done.

@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us if we're going to have a former Health Secretary as PM, I'd rather have Jeremy Hunt, and I've never voted Tory.

@fesshole@mastodon.social reminds me of when I went into a chip shop in Newcastle 20+ years ago. The kid behind the counter appeared to be of East Asian descent but turned out to have a thick Geordie accent. I chided myself all the way home for being surprised.

I'm an Arch Fellow and used it for about 15 years but it turned into hard work. I switched to Fedora (and now Bazzite) and never regretted it.

As @gamingonlinux@mastodon.social well knows, this is already happening to UK users, thanks to the OSA. We've already lost access to simple services like Imgur. Giphy/Tenor can't be far from introducing some sort of checks either.
To be honest, if we MUST have age verification, I'd rather verify once with my OS vendor (likely based on account age) than for every single app/service/API.
It's the timing that baffles me...

@dgar@aus.social @geeknik@infosec.exchange I agree. It's patently not a secret. And even then It should be plainly obvious to anyone with a fraction of a brain. Never participated in the AR scanning - there's obvious privacy implications in taking photos/video in public and uploading them to a third party. In fact, I don't think the AR scanning is even enabled for kids, which in itself is a massive red flag privacy wise.

@gamingonlinux more than happy for iOS to verify my age and share that verification in some basic form (i.e. some age "bucket" plus the verification method). Apple already has plenty of evidence of my age, I'm not giving them any extra information and it should mean I have to give less information to others.
It's a massive net gain over where we're currently headed, where I'll have to share an ID with giphy so I can browse & send a gif with blood in.
(Obvs I would not share an ID with giphy)

I think this is also at the root of why people don't like immigrants. They don't want to learn how to accomodate their beliefs and practices.
And maybe that is a fair complaint EXCEPT it's coming from people who go abroad and expected to be served in English and eat egg and chips.
You can't have it both ways.
Of course, they also completely over-inflate the supposed expectations of them, hence all this bollocks about not mentioning bacon around Muslims.

I think, as a society, we're dealing with a bunch of middle-aged people who accepted that these things were wrong but never understood why and just went along with it. Hence they use terms like "virtue signalling" and "political correctness", thinking it was just something done for appearances.
The fact that some of their peers still believe that these things are wrong feels like a rug pull to them - they assumed everyone was pretending.
They feel like nobody told them.

Self-improvement is also about unlearning and I think that lies at the root of "anti-woke" culture.
It's hard enough to learn what you need for life and apply it, never mind be told, after maybe decades, that's not right any more and you need to "unlearn" some behaviour.
In the past, I definitely held beliefs that would now be considered racist, mysoginist, ableist. But I learned they were wrong.
I don't mean someone told me they were wrong and I accepted it. I actually learned.

@cstross@wandering.shop I didn't know it was called push-polling. When I responded to the consultation on Boris' plans to "reintroduce" imperial weights and measures, that was a push-poll. It didn't let you actively denounce or disagree with the plans.

@DJDarren so, if I put it on repeat on Spotify (or w/e) and mute it, I just donate (a tiny amount of) money to Band Aid foundation?
Was thinking I could co-opt the game into fundraising for Band Aid along the lines of "when you hear it send £x to Band Aid" but I can't find anywhere they take donations...

@DJDarren his duet with Aretha Franklin is an absolute BANGER. You'd never guess that was an original track. For extra trivia points: co-written by Simon Climie from Climie Fisher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDxzQJaA228
