@theohonohan@graphics.social You are wise in these things. The game I'm writing relies heavily on users creating structures as an artistic process. What sort of stuff should I be reading? I'm not sure what the term is. It's not architecture insofar as there's no practical aspect. It's not sculpture or maybe it is? The game is 2d but I want players to think primarily in terms of buildings/objects not pictures. I think of land artists too, this train of thought started at a Sol LeWitt piece in Yorkshire sculpture park

We have a puzzle!
To keep everything as simple as possible, you currently just type in the solution. But the framework is there. You can gate areas behind puzzles or change the interactions with NPCs (well... PPCs... spoilers?)
Can you solve the puzzle?

@theohonohan@graphics.social fair enough. I think MIME multipart has a similar approach, since it has to cope with separating arbitrary files the delimiter is also arbitrary

@theohonohan@graphics.social Pattern matching across delimiters is a different and imo dubious use case

@theohonohan@graphics.social yes its more about the least bad in band signalling. Multiple CRs are semantically equivalent to one . ASCII 28-31 are also perfectly good delimiter characters that nobody has ever used.

@theohonohan@graphics.social I initially thought that might be a sensible decision for a world where CR and LF were still distinct. But then they ruined it all with bonkers stuff about DELIM and accent grave

@imbrium_photography@mastodon.social @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us that's true in Europe as well though with mixed results. And Birmingham.
I think on-street parking being illegal is the biggest factor, it's a massive subsidy to vehicle use in most countries. Making vehicles expensive also means there is less snobbery about lifestyles that don't require one. I doubt the details of the ownership model are super relevant but I would like to know more about the experiences of ordinary Japanese people, as so many UK social housing projects failed because of isolation.

Steady progress with the game, which still only has a working title. But I'm getting a much better idea of what I want it to be.
Today's pic is of the fast travel system. Everyone likes fast travel. You can't do it while you are alive, but that's probably fine!
