I am an engineer. I design chips for a living and right now I am specifically doing verification. By definition my job is not artistic in any way.
There are many among us who are true artists and specifically musicians, which is the kind of art that moves me the most. One such artist, Joshua Hyslop, is skilled with the ability to make guitars sing and chant cadences into my soul.
He’s coming out with a new album soon, so forgive me for oversharing when it does.

@silvermoon82 hmmm ok, my lack of understanding is apparent: if I buy a 5.25” drive, I would need an ISA or PCI controller card? Or are you suggesting I pull out a controller from somewhere else?
I watched a video of a guy in Sweden (if memory serves) who pulled the controller board out of a USB floppy drive and connected it to the floppy card edge of a 5.25 inch drive and could read data off a disk via USB.

It would be great to use them for file storage, or anything else really.
I keep threatening to buy an Apple iic, which I don’t think can use these because of their formatting. So maybe a similar era device?
How do I put these 5.25” floppy disks to work? I feel like I need some kind of computer from the 80s. But which one?

I just finished watching “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die”. Great movie with dark humor, tongue in cheek references to zombie and slasher movies, and a strangely familiar reference to modern society similar to Black Mirror.

The Floppy-RAID is complete!
It gets a whopping ~250kBps write speeds, but only on extremely large files forcing all mirror pools to be written to simultaneously. Small files have much slower write speeds it seems.
I’m not sure how the striping algorithm normally works, but it seems like macOS’s software RAID just stacks the underlying logical disks sequentially. It’s not doing block-level striping.
