Golf course water use is huge. They can carry on putting huge amounts of water on their courses when households are banned from using hosepipes to water their plants due to low levels in reservoirs.

My understanding is that theres the stuff that is backup up to signals servers & protected by the magic of Intel SGX & (by default) a short PIN (can elect to use a long password/phrase, but most people will go with the default) - SGX private keys can and have repeatedly been extracted from hardware. Think this backup is list of contacts and groups you have and maybe your profile details (name, image)?

Pretty sure the other backup of messages ,which I think can only be done manually and locally (actually I see they also have a beta e2ee storage service option for this now, Im not sure of details), is where your encryption keys are transfered. Which means your contacts dont get told your safety number has changed. Restoring this backup to a new device/client used to be painful and prone to failure for a number of reasons. Had to do incantations including granting Signal a lot of permissions you may not have otherwise wanted/needed for it to work. Thankfully much smoother now.

Theres good reasons support for running microG was never added

Security isnt great. Its questionable that it aids privacy. It downloads & uses proprietary Google libraries. All apps that interact with it run proprietary code which will connect directly to Google

microG support has to be maintained as AOSP changes. As GrapheneOS lives on the bleeding edge it would have to keep microG working with new android versions & QPR. Breakages could end up delaying OS security updates.

@tante I find I'm often now wary when the word sovereignty gets thrown around, precisely because its not unusual for it to be used in very nationalistic or individualistic contexts. It doesnt have to be. @adversary Hey Ben, thanks for your comments. I joined #SocialCoop a short time before the CoC was developed and I followed the conversations during its development. There was a fair amount of tension with some members rejecting suggestions from marginalized groups Some members from marginalized groups left. Also other members left because they thought the CoC would limit their speech We followed suggestions from members, and other folks, whod been involved in running diverse online 1/? @rixx
