Neat toy I ordered for myself a while ago has finally arrived! An e-ink monitor with a custom controller, for a really rapid refresh rate, which works pixel by pixel. Excited to try this out!

Good news:
My Dad's ability to drive seems to be unaffected by the Stroke! Made it for a 2 hour round trip drive to the nearest Tractor Supply, to get some quail feed for the birds.

Bad news:
Pretty sure the stress of riding shotgun for that has shaved 1.2 years off my life.

@SamanthaJaneSmith@lgbtqia.space I'm usually more cynical, but I was getting the sense this was to rekindle a love of space, esp. in young people (hence all the historic firsts, the excitement of setting up trans lunar infrastructure for future lunar presence, and the tech being used to give a sense of humanity and realness to the vehicle and it's occupants throughout the mission). I also got the sense this was more positioned in *spite* of the current administration in the US that's been gutting NASA. Not a single mention of the Trump administration, or even the federal government. I read it more as NASA trying to rise above the current moment, to show that the US isn't it's government. Its people can still be international partners to the world, and still do good and inspiring things together with them. I'm happy it's happening, and suppose that even my usually cynical heart sees this all pretty differently.

@Njord@zeroes.ca having socialized, worked, studied, and learned the culture of the early internet, I feel more like that's where I live and act? It's like a non-spatial country without strict borders, apart from those created by language barriers. I essentially live there. It's occupied by the US, and other geospatial countries, that have colonized it to varying degrees. Those also claim my neighbors on the Internet as citizens. So it's a sort of dual citizenship. Two places overlapped. I frequently cross into the country that's colonized my area, geospatially. I get groceries there, work there, study and socialize there, etc. I participate in political action there to preserve the liberty and health of it, of the Internet, and of other countries I feel connected to/spend time in through the Internet.

It relies on the idea that we are somehow separate from the natural world, too. We've got the capacity to self reflect and change our behavior. There's a world in which it's normal to see ourselves as part of our environment and planet, living in conversation with and as part of its systems. Just as humans are capable of kindness to each other, we are just as capable of acting as responsible stewards, if we hold ourselves accountable to be that.
