(This is Krissy) People keep asking me what they can do to support me in Noah's memory.

I am hunkering down in my town with my new and old friends. I am going to be ok; it'll hurt.

What you can do for Noah is to dig deep into where you live. Meet more people. Say hello when it is hard. Take risks on people. Help every chance you get. Never forget his example. There is always more you have to give, and learn and do.

Never stop growing.

That's how you can honor Noah. It's all he wants for you

As his wife I think the thing that would thrill him the most is if there could be a scholarship in his name at Ruby conferences. All the full price people can kick in an extra $10 each and then some people who otherwise wouldn't be able to go can come and learn.

His life's mission was to help people access information and learning.

@polotek@social.polotek.net I feel like expressiveness and authoring are issues we just *do* not address properly. You'll see occasional big successes (I like Ruby and older Rails versions). But even then, it's *incredibly* hard to get tools that are easy to learn *and* easy to share *and* easy to deploy. I don't know any mainstream lang that comes close. And when you point out the issues, the response is always "yeah, but is even worse!" Yeah, it is, and that doesn't help at all.

Facebook (not Threads) *certainly* has worse moderation than the average Mastodon instance, as you can trivially find if you wander around a bit. There's a reason that it's so famous for radicalising elderly relatives. And spreading Covid misinformation. And election misinformation. And ivermectin misinformation. Will Threads be better? No clue, but the odds don't look good.

@fishidwardrobe@mastodon.me.uk @acb@mastodon.social If you double the height each time it's going to go up by an octave (assuming height == frequency.) So you wouldn't have to do anything too weird with the scale. It'll sound pretty good already.

It's open-source. We *can* stop them. Gab and Parler use ActivityPub and what's approximately Mastodon. They're not federated with the rest of us, even though that would mean more users. More users != destiny.

That's cool. But then why are you bothering with Mastodon instead of going to one of the walled gardens? There are plenty. Trying to argue that Mastodon should *be* a walled garden will never work. It's not structured like that, and it's specifically defended *against* ever being that.
