I am genuinely sorry that anyone has to go through experiences like that.
My own experience with assault nearly ruined my marriage.
My trauma turned into putting my daughter into martial arts at a young age. I hope I don't pass too much trauma onto her and why I am obsessed with her ability to kick where it matters.
I am sure for men, that's not even an option because then you get charged for assault on top of it all too.
I have no answers. But I am genuine that I feel angry this happened to you. Nobody should go through this.

Every country absolutely needs to have a disaster management plan in place that does not include any action whatsoever from the United States.
This includes a communication plan where the US will be actively spreading misinformation and disinformation to make up for dear leaders incompetency on top of the known bad actors from mostly Russia whose agenda is to weaken the rest of the world.
Any country that does not have a plan that absolutely excludes the US is being negligent at this point.
Communication plans must also not rely on corporate media. They are not our allies in the fight for global health. They are extensions of the capitalist class and if the solution to keep us alive threatens Q4 earnings.... Guess what is more important?
This is not a drill. I literally just defended a dissertation on how the media killed people during COVID. I have receipts.

My people left and went everywhere. It's amazing for me to see the various Chinatown's in countries whose languages I don't speak and see how similar yet different our cuisines and culture ended up.
Once upon a time in Lisboa, I got lost. I walked past a Chinese resto thinking "I may as well try". I walked in using my very half assed broken mandarin (this was before I started to learn it). The woman apologized and said she didn't speak it in my paternal grandparents dialect, the first language I ever spoke in my life. The woman was nearly in tears speaking to a younger generation tai Shan descendant who could speak her language. She walked my butt back to the subway.
We all left and call different places home but our language remains. This is why I insist on my kids speaking Chinese. Sadly, this particular dialect isn't getting passed on but they can cross communicate.

Me too. I order from Amazon once a year because there is a specific thing I failed to find elsewhere.
I pretty much haven't touched the others on this list but am starting to appreciate that a lot of people do and I didn't even realize how much they've take over our older systems of doing things.
As technology takes becomes common, we lose basic skills we used to have. How many of our grandparents could start a fire? How many of us can?
They've said out loud AI is meant to deskill the population. We can't even do basics without them soon.
It's why I think it's important to take a look at how many things we can still do without them and how many we can't. I know a few people who would have a hard time functioning without these apps.

Not April fools.
Here's a screw a tech bro for a week challenge
1) don't make online purchases. Walk into a store or call /email a small business owner.
2) no using any food delivery apps, call a local restaurant and pick it up. The tech companies take a huge cut and you'd be doing the local small biz a huge favour by doing this.
3) no using Uber or Lyft. Call a cab if you need it
4) don't use AI tools. If your employer threatens your job, give them the slop they deserve, but nothing outside of that.
5) add in the comments anything else you think of.
I honestly wonder how painful this list is for many people. Is a week doable or have they fundamentally taken control of us so hard we already lost our old systems of living?

I want to know what these people were thinking.
I was quite excited about this at the time and was looking forward to trying protein in cricket form. The few times I see them on the store shelf they were priced like exotic novelties and I was waiting for the price to come down to more plebe levels.
They had wanted cricket to be a mass market product as a form of protein that was eco friendly, not like beef, yet it was priced like a prime steak.
They had a plebe product at bougie prices and couldn't figure out why it wasn't selling.

Another reminder that the most militarized nation on Earth murdered over a hundred school girls barely 2 days ago and not a major western media outlet carries the story anymore.
By contrast, 5 rich people died on a vanity trip to the Titanic and we wouldn't shut up about it for over a year.
Literally Toronto's Globe and Mail carried that story 23 times that month and during the same time frame, did 2 stories on the deaths of 700 migrants in the Mediterranean that same month.
It isn't just by lying. Turning a blind eye and ignoring is enough to manipulate public opinion. We are subtly being told that those girls' deaths are not important, not newsworthy, nothing to worry about.
Please don't let their deaths go silent so easily.
Keep tooting about them. Remind people of their murders. They should be front page news, not some turd in a tie.
Sadly social media has to do what corporate media will not. Corporate media is fascist controlled now.

I am looking forward to well reasoned think pieces from people more knowledgeable than I am with titles like
"Tech creating barriers to healthcare"
I got an email from a third party that looked quite spammy. Almost deleted it. Then took a second look and realized it must be that referral from the specialist I've been waiting for.
I had to pop open my laptop, create an account in order to see the message, and all it was was a pdf to download to tell me I had an intake appointment created for me at this and this a time and if I didn't call within so many days to confirm, it would be cancelled.
Took me over 10 minutes to get all this information where a phone call back in the day would have taken 2.
I also can't see someone like my mother not getting that appointment cancelled on her.
She would never have even opened that email. The spammy look, big words she wouldn't have known, a sign in page that would have made her think fraud if she even got that far.
Nothing about this process felt like "progess" or an improvement over a phone call.

Brutal.
Catholic hospitals can also deny pregnant people necessary health care for the same BS religious reasons.
Friend of mine had a late stage miscarriage and they made her wait two days rather give her a D&E.
The fetus was already long dead and likely already passed but because of religion, they made her suffer two days.
Religion should not be allowed into our healthcare anymore than they should be allowed into our schools. Get them out of both.

Friend sent me this and it made me realize how many people see the writing on the wall, yet are entirely powerless to prevent this from happening.
Not that many of us are blind to the fact that democracy is under threat, yet our ability to stop the billionaires from crushing it entirely is limited.
We are watching the collapse of a system that brought us tremendous wealth and technological advancement. And the billionaires, in their quest for more personal wealth, are willing to sacrifices all our lives for it.

The videos I am talking about generally have subs and there's already audio (the person is speaking) so what's really missing is what it looks like. I had tried to do a few with "person looking into camera, background is of books" but all of it felt pretty lame. It's also not really relevant. But knowing that someone appreciates knowing what the person is wearing, their hair, maybe their gender makes a world of difference to how I will alt text going forward. Thanks!

If they are videos of say a talking head into the camera and the text is already subbed, it feels redundant to have it again. It might not be relevant to the message to describe the person delivering it but would that make a difference to you?
