@MHowell @raiderrobert @pluralistic The app for my Honda just lost features unless I pay for them after working fine for years. Thankfully I don’t need those features. Not looking forward to buying a car in the future when every car manufacturer is openly hostile to its users. Maybe I’ll just move somewhere with good public transport and not own a car. Seems like the only real option. Like in War Games, the only way to win is to not play.

LinkedIn is having a meltdown about Anthropics new cybersecurity focused model, and I just can’t be bothered to care. Even if it does the things they are claiming it can do (it probably can’t), it doesn’t fix any issues we are currently facing, and creates whole new issues for anyone trying to implement them (like all of “AI”).

Me either!

I scored 6% on the Tech Bro Assessment. Verdict: not a tech bro. Take the quiz: https://amiatechbro.com/

It occurs to me that executives forcing AI on their companies without clear objectives or guidelines lack the leadership skills required to run their companies and should be replaced with competent people that understand the technology, its limitations, and inherent risk.

LinkedIn is having a moment where everyone is realizing Microsoft holds their Bitlocker keys in escrow and can/will hand them over the law enforcement if they are compelled. I mean, yes they are, but nothing has changed since forever in that regards.

If you don't own the computer hardware, you don't own your data. period. There are more secure ways of public cloud usage, but at the end of the day if you cannot touch it, you don't own it.

I get that moving to something else is difficult, but everyone should do their best to move off of VMWare. The new owners are everything wrong with the industry and should be made to feel bad for being so shitty.
