In a strange turn of events my 13 year #Kindle was decided to walk out on me. Any recommendations for a DIY/ #esp32 / #pico powered alternatives that are less restrictive? I’m not inclined to go towards a Kobo with #koreader. My candidates are:

All set for a field day, the aim is to test a home-brewed vertical coil (have an EFHW as backup) with the QMX and zbitx v1, test-driving a Gigaparts POTA20 mast, and the portable ESP32 powered HAM Clock I’ve been working on with the local club. In case, all goes well, might attempt a POTA.

I'd say #LabourDay well spent, finally got around to powering the #zBitx from a powerbank and some bug fixes on the HAM Clock using an #esp32 CYD to get it up and running. A few more fixes and I'm all set for the next field day in better conditions :-).

Fun start to a group build we are doing at our radio club BARC (https://www.barc.in/), this is based on the work already done by SP3KON using an #esp32 CYD. Has some useful things to such as band conditions, APRS, HAM Alerts, POTA Spots, etc. Needs a bit more work to get it useful in the field, which is where I operate.

I guess a win for open-source and open-hardware in a way, my #FrameworkLaptop laptop had issues with recognising USB ports and there was a major boot issue with my operating system. #fedoralinux fixes the boot issue 'automagically', Linux has really progressed! I followed the guide to reset the motherboard on Framework's site, and now the USB ports work perfectly fine.

@KevinMarks@xoxo.zone This quote from Danah Boyd's thesis reminds me about the discussion around how online social networks have changed from "replicated real world networks" whether they were on BBSes, listservs, forums or other modes which were topical or demographical in some sense to "public personas" maintained and monetized by third-party services. @randomwalker @sayashk Thanks for putting this collection out there, a large part of my work has been battling the FOMO created within public institutions about not using the newest hype-baby. Whether it was big-data, blockchains, crypto or AI, the hardest part is getting folks to acknowledge limitations and strengths so that they can ask the right questions about the tool/medium, and then harness it appropriately.
