Updated ‘ktown’ packages, and a heads-up

Time for a KDE Plasma6 package refresh. On KDE's announcement page, the releases of KDE Gear 26.04.1 and Frameworks 6.26.0 were announced yesterday and today. Since OS packagers have early access to the source tarballs, I had everything compiled and ready for days and could simply push everything into my 'ktown' repository today.

@Epic_Null that's of course a non-argument. Just like I cannot prevent any Russian from using Slackware Linux. The product is out there, if it is abused by bad actors then go after them, not after the developer.

Java SDK updates for Slackware all across the board

Today I pushed fresh Slackware packages (for 15.0 and -current, and 32bit as well as 64bit) for various new OpenJDK releases. This is a quarterly process where the Java developers release a "GA" version. The "GA" stands for General Availability. The "GA" version indicates that the software is considered stable, feature-complete, and ready for use in production environments.

KDE 6_26.04 for Slackware-current (almost free of Qt5)

To be honest, I was waiting for a move from Pat. But I got restless, Pat is otherwise occupied for a few days so I took the plunge. What I am talking about is of course packaging KDE Gear 26.04.0 for Slackware. The latest release of Applications and KDEPIM is nicknamed the "KDE at 30" edition because KDE is around for 30 years already (!).

@mgorny@social.treehouse.systems it does not help pointing to people using LLMs for legitimate reasons. It's other people using those same tools but then for nefarious purposes. I use user-agent filtering and put Anubis in front of the Slackware git infrastructure, and that has helped immensely. I eventually got git.gentoo.org to render and gosh! That's a lot of repositories there. Would it be an idea to distribute the cgit interface over multiple front-end servers? Like, moving all user repos to a different server?

Slackware Cloud Server Series, Episode 12: Local AI

The world is on fire, thanks to the orange clown who wages war for personal gain. Or is it because data centers are super-heated running all these AI models 24/7 ? In any case, the AI boom wreaked havoc with my plans to purchase a new computer in order to replace my ageing build server here at home. RAM sticks are 4 to 5 times as expensive now compared to half a year ago...

New KDE Frameworks and Plasma packages

KDE just announced the KDE Frameworks 6.25.0, and earlier this week they came with Plasma 6.6.4. I built the packages for those new releases - targeting Slackware -current of course. Along with these updates I also refreshed KleverNotes, Krita, Kstars and Okteta to their latest versions. You can find the packages in my 'ktown' repository...

@leeloo@c.im I don't think you realize how a Linux OS works together with the applications you run in a graphical login session. At least read the article I link to in the original Mastodon post and also click through to its parent article which is more in-depth.

DAW question for Slackware 15.1: Pipewire or JACK Audio?

I bought a new laptop to do some more serious work on, and while I was setting up the audio, installing JACK Audio Server and friends, I wondered what would be the proper path forward for a Slackware DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) when Slackware 15.1 is released with all the improvements over the 15.0 stable release. Should I stick with JACK or look into Pipewire to get rid of the Jack server?

Multiple Chromium updates in rapid succession

You may have noticed that after my release of the Slackware package for Chromium (and its Un-Googled sibling) version 146.0.7680.71 there was a really short interval until I released an update in the form of the 146.0.7680.75 version. Chromium 146.0.7680.71 is the latest major version upgrade and it addressed a crazy amount of CVE's. I am not even going to lookup and configure the URLs...

KDE 6_26.03 for Slackware-current

Yesterday evening, KDE released their Frameworks 6.24.0 and taking advantage of the moment and even before morning coffee, I uploaded the Slackware packages for these new Frameworks.

Alongside with these Frameworks, I built a package for the third Beta of Krita 6.0.0 – the KDE drawing tool will finally be available as a Qt6 based application with proper Wayland support.
