I had heard of 100 Rabbits, but I just dug deep enough to learn about their little virtual machine, uxn -- all their software apparently targets this VM, and they have implementations for lots of different platforms, including very old ones. Curious if anybody has managed to make more languages compile to the VM, other than their unusual little assembly language... https://100r.co/site/uxn.html

S and I were looking at Steam games, and one of them that came up for unknown reasons was American Truck Simulator, and she asked, "ok is it an AMERICAN TRUCK simulator or is it an American TRUCK SIMULATOR" and I am so deeply proud of my kid.

(it could also be an American American Truck Simulator, and that would be pretty unambiguous)

We have determined, with a little research: it is a Czech simulator of American trucks.

Say it's got 100 measures in it and it's in four so that's 400 beats (so the song is in the neighborhood of 3 or 4 minutes long depending on tempo). I rewrite the sheet music for the song so that it's in 400/4. It is a single measure containing 400 beats. It sounds exactly the same. We could just always do this, even for 20-minute prog masterpieces about hobbits. :3

Transformers are really really good for their original use case -- translation where you have a pretty well-curated training set of input/output pairs in source and target languages. If you noticed Google Translate and DeepL and etc getting a lot better over the past decade, that's why.

One of my students came to office hours in full monochrome mime outfit with a beret and face paint, and before saying anything, put a red clown nose on my nose. NLP at Santa Cruz: we do things normal style.
