Walls of flames destroyed dozens of homes and other structures in the Indian Trail neighborhood and more areas of Spokane on Saturday amid one of the worst natural disasters in the city’s history.
Home after home caught fire and exploded into flames along with trees.
Loud explosions could be heard through the smoke as the wildfire that started earlier in the afternoon on the West Plains continued to destroy much of what was in its path.
Winds gusting 35 to 45 mph drove the fire into Riverside State Park and then across the Spokane River.
Mass evacuations were ordered for much of the city, from north of Francis Avenue and west of Division Street.
The fires, smoke and evacuations led to chaos across the northwest part of the city.
Mayor Lisa Brown declared a state of emergency. Gov. Bob Ferguson activated the National Guard.
The scope of the fire remained unknown Saturday night – more than 9 hours after the fire was reported.
City officials at a news conference Saturday night could not say if there were injuries.
The wind blew smoke and flames across North Indian Trail Road so quickly,
firefighters were yelling at people nearby to run.

@kevinrothrock@infosec.exchange advocating and fighting an unnecessary war where puppets of Putin bomb train stations and schools is madness. Japanese soldiers using civilians for slaves and fighting practice was madness and that war only stopped when America brutally showed those people who were profiting from its spoils its consequences. If society decides only the family members who knowingly stay in contact with people committing war crimes are legitimate targets that will make each soldier feel personally vulnerable, show the population "war is hell" and do a better job of killing morale than Putin or British bomber Harris did: "The aim of the Combined Bomber Offensive ... should be unambiguously stated [as] the destruction of German cities, the killing of German workers, and the disruption of civilised life throughout Germany ... the destruction of houses, public utilities, transport and lives, the creation of a refugee problem on an unprecedented scale, and the breakdown of morale both at home and at the battle fronts by fear of extended and intensified bombing, are accepted and intended aims of our bombing policy. They are not by-products of attempts to hit factories."

the fashists here make the same hurtful assumptions. We are presumed to be cheating a system rigged to support those who hurt us for fun. We are told to work but can not force companies to accomodate us
Quoting
On benefits, however, Andy Burnham told the Guardian:
'It’s about changing the nature of the support & making some of the support conditional upon people taking opportunities that are presented in front of them.
So you might increase the conditions required to receive benefits. I think it’s a good thing that the government has given guarantees of opportunities for young people'!
Which is perhaps more worrying, once again implying benefits' recipients are somehow shirkers?

Just an interesting observation as an #ACB2026 attendee. I just love how our convention is being held at a hotel which has a completely inaccessible in room thermostat. That's a lovely impression there. A fully touch screen based appliance, which I wouldn't even call usable. And this folks is exactly why there needs to be voiceover like capability on these devices, yet the only fully touch screen devices blind people can use so far as I'm aware, remains Iphones and Android devices! How have we not gotten to the point of having this stuff be fully accessible by now! Just my rant for what it's worth.

a feminist said "the personal is political" those who don't want us to talk about politics don't want us discussing what effects statements like "the greatest weakness for western civilization is empathy" will have on our lives. They are telling us to stop complaining about slowly dying.
Quoting
I literally cannot conceive of a thing that isn’t about politics in our current society. My breakfast is about politics. The weather is about politics. When I buy groceries that’s politics. My job is a political act. When I spend time with friends later today that act will also be political. And not because we’ll be protesting but because existing as queer brown women in public is a political act. The fact that so many of my friends are disabled or neurodivergent or sex workers is political

the Royal Bank of Canada is using a chat program to replace an innovative system where customers could tap a link and call a specialist adviser from their appwith a general search engine box that takes two messages to get out of the way and give customers the human answer to our questions we deserve. The use of programs instead of Canadian humans keeps the profits of capitalists unacceptibly high for the pain they are bringing to this economy.
