@hellomiakoda@pdx.social Mint was my first desktop Linux and it was wonderful. Like your friend, I didn't want to learn a new OS - I just wanted to get a development environment up as soon as possible and get back to work. And Mint did that exactly!

@melusina@dice.camp Please let us know how it goes! I have the Coriolis rulebook but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

@juergen_hubert@thefolklore.cafe @ami_angelwings@urusai.social How do you feel about non-complex TTRPGs that also cover lots of different situations?
Some examples:
Mystic Empyrean: everything you can imagine doing - combat, piloting, diplomacy, cooking, etc. - is resolved by rolling/drawing for success in one of seven categories, with four possible outcomes.
Microscope: Do something that affects another PC, they choose the outcome. Do something that affects nobody's PC, you choose the outcome. No dice needed.

@ami_angelwings@urusai.social TTRPG, combat: the player shouldn't see the grid. Let the GM describe the player's situation in first-person.

It's just about impossible for the character to know absolute distances and have full 360 degree awareness, yet the player almost always has this by default in D&D-style games.

(The GM may still want a grid of course, behind the screen. Or not, if they choose.)

@liminalfiction@mastodon.otherworldsink.com Starfish, by Peter Watts. It's about people who have been modified to survive in the ocean for long periods of time, and the psychology of how they were chosen. (There's definitely some triggering aspects to the book.) https://bookshop.org/p/books/starfish-peter-watts/7252517

@triktrek@startrek.website @CaptainProton@lemmy.fmhy.ml Our instances sometimes don’t federate correctly, so I'm gonna reply from Mastoson this time! Here’s the reply that shows how SNW has, maybe, diverged: https://beehaw.org/comment/658690

@kebokyo@plush.city I can answer the second one. Threads users won't be able to see your posts through the official Threads page/app, but they can always just go to @kebokyo@plush.city directly in their browser (or make an account on a different Fediverse instance and follow from there).

For the first question, I'm not entirely sure. But in my experience, defederation seems to be very thorough (my chosen instance does a lot of defederating).

@billday@williamsonday.buzz @jon@social.vivaldi.net Vivaldi has some useful features built in - in my case, "tab stacking" has proven to be very useful. It also has a good ad blocker, lots of customizability, and doesn't support the "idle API" (which is one of the most user-hostile features Chromium has added recently).

I'm a bit biased because I have to use a Chromium browser at work, and Vivaldi seems to be the best in that category.

@terrywallwork@mstdn.jp I think in this case DuoLingo is behaving as intended, because "I ate fried chicken in store" is not grammatically correct English. "Store" needs an article in English - I'd think either "a" or "the" would work.

@angusm@mastodon.social @thomasescritt@berlin.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr Adobe DRM is the only DRM that I support. It's much better than Amazon's. Just make sure you're using ADE 2.0, that's all I'll say in public :)

Replying to @Raccoon@techhub.social
@Raccoon@techhub.social @Lee_in_Iowa@newsie.social @rodhilton@mastodon.social @dhepworth@home.social @hu_logic@mastodon.social A better suggestion is to use an ad blocker. That way, you don't actually generate ad revenue for the sites you're on, and instead cost them (minuscule amounts of) resources. I recommend Firefox with the uBlock Origin add-on, or the Vivaldi browser, or the Brave browser. Plus, ad blocking makes your own web experience much smoother overall.
