The only silver lining with this story, as well as stuff like Trump campaigning in NY to shore up house seats for the GOP, is that it indicates their internal polling shows him losing MI/WI/PA, otherwise they wouldn't be doing this. Seems like they're trying to get the house so that with SCOTUS they can overturn the election. So they know they've lost.

@Basic_Bench@mstdn.social I like the idea of proportional allocation, giving everyone in every state a reason to vote and no reason to focus campaigns on a handful of swing states. But I have concerns about how it would turn every race into another hairsplit 50/50 election. Trump would have gotten 267 electoral votes to Clinton's 265 that way. And now that I see what Nebraska is doing, I'm much more worried about one state defecting to winner-take-all at the last second to steal the election.

@altruios@mastodon.social that's interesting, I should look more into it. I didn't realize there was a difference between rated and ranked choice voting, I thought those were the same thing. The elimination rounds is why I didn't think it would scale but if this other system would allow you to rank your choices without eliminations then yeah that would be amazing

Voting already starting and they want to change the rules so that Kamala won't get the 270th vote in the most-likely scenario of a WI-MI-PA sweep, sending a 269 vote to the senate to pick Trump as winner.

Literally there is one single (Republican) guy in Nebraska on the board that is holding steady in his refusal to do this, and if he waffles then Harris will have to win ANOTHER swing state.

Getting pretty tired of a single Republican being the decider on democracy.

@MudMan@mas.to @dHeinemann@fosstodon.org @davekarpf@mastodon.social You were always able to click into your own tweet's metrics to see impressions, but it required a deliberate click on each tweet where you wanted that info. People generally never bothered except marketers and advertisers. Seeing it right there on your feed, as you scroll, pushes that information to you rather than requiring you pull it. So people notice more. Further, you never had access to other tweet's view counts as a point of comparison, and now you do.

@johnnywey@mastodon.online Accurate (I assume). But people are default opted-into For You. My point is just that the views feature gives away how much algorithmic interference there is. People think they have a huge audience because they have a large follow count, but the fact is what they post doesn't get seen that widely, and the Views feature shows that.

Notice how @davekarpf@mastodon.social is using the view count that Elon just pushed for, the exact thing I predicted the day after it launched was going to make people realize how little engagement they are getting on the platform, and realize it's worthless.

View count doesn't measure ANYTHING about a Tweet or its author, it's solely a reflection of the algorithm itself, and how much it's amping or deamping someone's posts.

Twitter launched a feature that tells on itself.
