@vlrny@disabled.social it is terrifying knowing that with a minor disability from long covid, that I spend so much time advocating for myself and so much money paying for treatments, and I can because I have the energy and can work, but if I get covid again I could become permanently so sick that I can't do that. There is nothing for us. And I also have to spend heaps of effort stopping myself from getting covid again because everyone, even health care providers, do nothing. #covidisnotover

@tchambers yes it feels so much healthier scrolling the Fediverse and I feel like my thoughts have cleared up and deepened, becoming more creative. There are still aspects of parasocial and followers/ metrics on the Fediverse though and I'm still undecided about if I want/need them in my life. I would be curious to see someone explore that further. Along with things such as the movement of music on the Fediverse, which sits a little outside the sphere of knowledge sharing described.

@WTL yes, and is there a track record of running not for profit then changing model later on? Like with OpenAI? Meaning there needs to be more mechanisms shown from the beginning for added assurity when committing to a new platform.

What's the best protection against this never ending situation which potentially disperses and weakens communities?

@_elena and isn't the situation with Substack such that you can migrate your profile to a different platform rather than starting over? I still think platform migration fatigue is not given enough credit for being a legitimate excuse, but sticking to platforms that can migrate is a good idea.

My profile picture is the album cover of my EP Dissolves Corporeality, which I will start releasing in a few weeks. It is part of a series of photographs that came about when I was having a small nap in my bathroom (as you do) and I noticed an interesting mirror view of the room through the plumbing under the sink. I realized that if I took a selfie in that reflection, it captured the concept of the album; the self in corporeal form being sucked into the machine. #diymusic #musician #creative

@paulhellyer@mastodon.nz yes we were lucky. Funny, at the pharmacy yesterday getting my vaccines, the little booth was filled with old posters about social distancing. While quaint, both this and hang washing are outdated advice now we know the virus is an aerosol. And today Covid19 continues to kill people and disable large numbers, at this point unencumbered by the latest evidence on prevention.

Am I supposed to introduce myself and #introduction ?..I confess I have never known how to use the social internet properly and the Fediverse confuses me a bit, but I feel strongly in the need to carve out alternative social spaces on the Internet. So excuse any social faux pas on my part. I am an educator and musician in New Zealand with a passion for writing complaint letters, bringing the social sciences into everything and dreaming of a world where we radically take care of each other.
