I haven’t heard any of the political experts on tv discuss what happens if Mike Johnson simply refuses to seat the newly elected Democratic Representatives. I not talking about formal challenges to the elections, just Mike Johnson claiming the elections were rigged and unilaterally decides not to swear them in.

There should be a way to swap citizenship. Let them deport me and I get his British passport and free transportation to England. I'm stuck here with no way to escape to civilization, my ancestors going back 14 generations to Jamestown. None of these easy ways out with parents born in Italy or Ireland.

The idea of not taxing a religion is the same as not singling out Arnold Schwarzenegger movies for extra taxes. Making religious businesses pay ordinary taxes on their property is not a tax on religion, it is a property tax.

We even have bishops and nuns publicly demonstrating to end abortion, ie, vote Republican. Second, there is a Chaplain of the House of Representatives and military chaplains, all paid on the taxpayer dime. Make religions part of the entertainment business, and let them pay the same taxes as a theater.

Reclassify them as the entertainment businesses that they objectively are. If they want to claim non-profit status, let them file the appropriate paperwork. In any case, they should pay the standard property taxes that support fire departments, police, road repairs, garbage collection, et hoc genus omne. Allowing income tax deductions for donations to churches, synagogues, mosques, etc, should definitely stop, since religious businesses don’t have to show that they are charities.

I doubt that even a small fraction of his base is aware of that he is not supposed to salute. Trump himself thinks he is above social norms of any kind, and really has no concept of good manners, decorum, or respect for tradition. With the mind of a 12 year old, he salutes because it’s all part of the fun.

I have wiped Micro$haft off a few dozen systems I’ve bought over the years, replacing it with Red Hat, Debian, Mint, Free BSD, etc. I’m 83 years old. I thought maybe, just once, I would not have to deal with it, not have to spend hours downloading, verifying, installing…I though for ONCE somebody at framework would spare me that. Wrong.

Went through the hassle of picking memory, storage, processor etc, but when I got to the section for choosing an OS my only choices were Micro$haft, ie, Linux is only available on SOME of their systems. On Dell systems you SAVE $500+ with Linux instead of Windows.

Basically, the SCOTUS said it was over, so Gore had no appeal or delay tactic available. The Republicans had slammed the door. The recounts continued on inertia, but they had no legal effect because of Clarence Thomas and his Republican friends.

@georgetakei@universeodon.com No there were not enough votes for Nader for Gore to lose Florida. The recount showed that Gore won Florida. There were not enough votes on the SCOTUS to allow the recount to continue and the election went to Bush as a result.
