@desantis@mastodon.bida.im @rusty_shackleford@colorlessgreenvoid.com @GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social @faraiwe@mstdn.social This is one thing I always point out in conversations about why nothing is changing. The western world is so distracted and brainwashed, and social media keeps us fixated on the shiny things instead. How can we have proper conversations or motivate them, especially the new generations, when the average attention span is 5 seconds?

Just switched over my #Pangolin VPS from #DigitalOcean to #Hetzner in the #EU. I'm staying far away from any American digital services.

@funkybuddha@mastodon.green @kdkorte@fosstodon.org You're definitely right. I must say, the *biggest* thing IMO is the terminal. People collapse to puddles at the mere thought of seeing or using it. I can't stress enough how important an app store is, and GUIs for these new users.

@kdkorte@fosstodon.org @kdkorte@fosstodon.org The strangest thing to me is when people suggest default #Ubuntu or a distribution like #CachyOS to a beginner. Ubuntu is not good for someone coming from Windows for the reasons the article explains, and something like CachyOS isn't good because it's not very intuitive with it's welcome screen and absent "app store".
The people who always suggest #LinuxMint are plentiful in number but they are right to. Most people need an app store of some kind and a familiar layout.

@paavi@mastodontti.fi @kevinrns@mstdn.social @thomasfricke@23.social @hateaid@troet.cafe I've done a fair bit of research for VPSs, and the consensus for Contabo was pretty hit or miss. Is it true?

@kevinrns@mstdn.social @thomasfricke@23.social @hateaid@troet.cafe Any recommendations for a VPS that is not IONOS (my credit card didn't work), NetCup (when setting up a VPS they said I should consult a lawyer) or any other VPS which I do not have to provide government ID? And which is less than $6USD a month?
I am behind a CGNAT, there's no entirely self-hosted solution for me.
